My mare who is super hard to fit rides in a cj cactus and I really like this saddle but Im pretty sure it won't fit my new horse. My mare has a flat, straight back so.most saddles have to much rock, but my new guy is normal and already has decebt withers. I would really like to try a crown c, but the seat looks really deep and they are hard to fit from what I hear. What do you ride in and why?

I bought a Vernon Purdy saddle a couple of years ago.  I love the fact that they fit all horses I used it on.  It also frees up their shoulders.  I also have a Caldwell.  I love them too but mine is one of the older ones.....don't really know if anything has changed with the newer ones.  Also these saddles fit a variety of different horses.

Jeff Smith C3. I bought it because of the variety of horses they fit. I actually just through it on all 4 of ours and it wasn’t hateful on any of them, the only one I didn’t think I would be able to make it work super well on with padding adjustments was my heel horse - he’s a mutton withered broad backed tank. Luckily he won’t have to wear a barrel saddle again any time soon. The general shape was great so I’m sure the wide tree would have worked great for him. I thought my colt was going to be in the same boat, but with a 1/2” 5 Star it actually didn’t look bad - I was going to ride him in it today but the weather had other plans.

I’ve owned a lot of saddles. Martins, Double j’s, Triple Creek, RS, circle y’s, this is by far the most well made of any of them.

I rode in a girlfriend's Twister, and ordered my own less than 48 hours later. She says they are very forgiving to fit. I haven't seen them mentioned here when people start talking about saddles, but that might be because you'll have to pry their cold dead hands off theirs.

I’m going to mention the Corriente again.... I know they’re cheap, so people think they’re junk. But they have fit such a wide variety of horses for myself and others I know. I love how they ride. No, they aren’t top dollar saddles, but the leather is thick and supple, they’re very customizable, and they have fit everything I have thrown them on.

Do not have a Corriente but they do seem to fit a lot of horses and are nice looking saddles.

I ride a Josey Cash. Took a little getting used to but I love it.

I ride in a Hilason, which I know isn't the best but it's helped my horses back since I bought it last fall and it's made me pay attention more to the weight in my feet. I'm hoping to save up enough money to buy a nice Bob Marshall next fall but we'll see.

My corriente has always seemed to fit my narrower built horses who've got some wither. For my wide, flat backed, no withered mare, the Pozzi wide works well. There is a roohide tree that fits her extremely well also.

Older Coats! Haven't found a horse it doesn't fit. And it is so comfortable--I'm addicted, and my 2 other barrel saddles are just sitting in the barn taking up space, no matter how many I have to ride.

I really like the Deb Sibley Ultra Flex saddle. Ordered a new one just over two years ago (14.5" suede seat with 5" cantle, 6.5" gullet, regular fenders). I have always ridden in a traditional treed saddle, but wanted something that had forward hung stirrups with a deeper seat as my treed saddle allowed my feet to swing back and caused me to feel pitched forward during a run. In my search for a new saddle, I tried several treeless brands and didn't care for the rolling feeling. One thought to consider for really push style horses, they can feel everything in a treeless saddle. If you even think about sitting down in a true treeless, they feel it (i.e. downed barrels). It has fit every horse I tried it on (so far three horses).

I was fortunate that a friend had a Deb Sibley (15" seat, 5" cantle) and allowed to me borrow it for a few days to see if I really liked it. This saddle makes me feel secure during a run and through the turns and allows me to get up out of the seat on a push style horse. Feels like I'm riding in a treed saddle, yet I can feel my horse underneath me (with no roll). I use a 5 star pad 7/8" at shows and a Classic Equine ESP 1" thick for everyday riding. This saddle weighs around 22 lbs, I think. The best part is the adjustable stirrups. It takes a few weeks to get them adjusted just right, but worth it! Very happy with it and currently looking to buy another one. On my next one, I will get a wide fit for my other horse and just shim as needed.

Good Luck in your search!

I currently ride an Ammerman and love it, but, its seems to put a little too much pressure just behind the withers on my current horse so I am waiting on a new Bob Marshall (so sick of saddle fit issues

I have an NRS Martin racer. Love it. Also won a certificate for a cactus and I love it too. Ride different than the Martin but I like running in it.

Have you looked at a Cowgirl Tuff Saddle at all. These saddles are new to the market but are definitely fitting a bunch of different sizes for horses. They also offer a demo saddle.

I'm just dying to try one on my horse. They really need to offer a trial saddle!

I've owned and ridden in on my current horse a Marlene Mcrae Cactus, Martin Crown C, Meleta Brown #2 tree, Circle Y JBN. The Meleta rode well and my horse moved well, but it really slid forward on him. The Crown C, I don't know what to think. He felt good in it but the fit just looks off. My gelding has big shoulders and a fairly flat, very short back. He's been a real struggle to fit. Especially since I'm on a budget. My bareback skills have really improved though!

I have two Twister barrel saddles. I love them. They are a little heavy, but that's just because they are so well made.

A Shiloh Finalist and I LOVE it!!! I had 3 different custom Martins (Crown C 8in. gullet, original Racer 10in gullet, and FX3 10.5in gullet with flat bars) prior to this one and while those were beautifully crafted saddles they just didn't help me ride like to I needed to. The FX3 and Crown C were pretty good, but the fitting theory behind them is expensive and confusing. I couldn't use the same saddle on all my horses. My Shiloh fits both my round backed horse and my decent withered horses. Plus, the best part is it helps me sit deep and stay centered.

I think the Shiloh is the nicest, best riding saddle out there for the money.  I also have a Corriente I really like, but they can't or aren't willing to duplicate the things I love about it and seems there is some inconsistency from saddle to saddle as to how the fit a horse and ride.

I have rode in a lot of saddles due to a hard to fit horse i use to have.  I have a older Martin Ironhorse and that seems to fit everything i put it on.  It fit my last two mares that had more of a flat wide back with little wither and with a pad change fits my new gelding with a much more prounouced wither.  I had it at a friends who trains horses and seemed to fit most everything there too.
