Location: Texas! | From your house? We are trying to decide where to put our barn but do not want to constantly hear the noise and have to dust of the horses right behind our bed window. |

Location: Duvall, WA | Mine is about 75 yards, too, maybe a little less. I think that is perfect. I can see whether they are in their stalls or out in their pens or giving me the evil eye to come feed them. But don't see any dust or flies. Don't forget how many times a day you will be making that walk. . . |

Location: Texas! | Yes I definitely don't want it far but I think where we've been thinking is too close. If our bedroom was on the other side of the house if wouldn't bother me. I've lived in barn apartments and now they are in a dry lot literally behind the wall of our bed is up against I hate it I wake up to every noise and jump up to stare at them out the window ugh! |

| 100-150 feet? That’s guessing. Our property is rougher pasture ground with a flat bottom, in order to maintain some hay ground for the time being we had about 1.5-2.0 acres to build on.
We live right on a gravel road and also have cattle so dust and flies are a part of life. Fly predators helped a ton last year but it was also very dry which helped a lot as well. Manure management also cuts down a lot on flies, the fly predators site has some great tips. |

| I can see my barn right out of my kitchen window. . I hear EVERYTHING. especially in the early mornings when feed is expected! I finally got an area smoothed out and tilled up for me to work my horses, I had them put it right off my back porch, in case someone needed me when I'm riding all he has to do is holler at me from the porch :-)

| Sorry my pics are sideways.. having technical difficulties this morning for some reason! In a perfect world I'd probably have both areas a bit further from my house. We are in the process of adding a 12 ft overhang to the barn and adding on another stall to the end for more hay storage. And I'd like to add runs to the stalls as well so when I want to keep them locked up to let the pasture grow they can walk outside if they choose. |

I would actually love that, so I might not be much help, lol.
We are planning, too. My non-horsey husband is keeping me from putting it too close, but I want to be able to see and hear what’s going on in the barn.
I’d say, if those things bother you, then farther away is best. |

Location: MN | Mine is about 200 yards away, as the crow flies. The house that we hope to own one day soon, the barn is only 50 yards away roughly, which is about perfect to me! |

Location: Northern Ontario | 10 minute drive. I miss having the horses at home (when I stayed with my parents). The barn was maybe 200 ft from the back of the house, which is kinda close, but it was easy to watch them in the shelter. the edge of the pasture was maybe 50-75ft from the house because we watered the horses in the winter with a hose from the house. |

Location: mi | Mine is probably 100-150 feet. My bedroom is on the farside of the house from the barn. Living room is closer to barn. Even in winter if someone is banging a water bucket I can hear themin the living room with the tv on. Can certainly hear if someone is down and stuck. Not enough in the bedroom to be woken by though unless its summer and the windows are open. But thats road side so normally its air conditioning for us. |

The barn we're building is about the same distance away. Our property is right at 9 acres and has a high spot/hill that runs sort of diagonal, so everything is on top.
House is close to the road, barn will be further away from road but still on top of hill, then our arena is all the way to the back corner, but still on top of the same hill.
Once the barn is finished, everything that goes along with it will be on the opposite side of house, like round pen or walker, turn outs, etc. In front of barn will be trailer turn around and parking, and between barn and house will just be yard area for my small dog. |

Location: NC | About 200 feet away is the barn. Havent finished barn yet so dont hear them up there. But my neighbor is letting us use some of his land to open the pasture so they come down next to house. (they just love to go running around the pasture at 6 am and all you hear is hoofbeats!!)
The way the property is set up is house is set halfway down slope and horses are above us on top closer to road. Behind house is gentle slope about 50 feet and then slopes down to creek. |

Location: MI | Ours is about 100-150’ and I love it. I can hear what’s going on but not see, so my husband got me a ranch cam for Christmas so I don’t have to walk out there to see what’s going on when I hear the dogs barking in there at night. In the summer, we leave windows open and horses out, and I haven’t ever thought it’s too loud. Can run between the 2 easily when we forget stuff inside, etc. |
