Location: Southern Indiana | I had a CJ scamper back when Charmayne was still with them. They are very well made saddles. I actually I still have it but my grandpa latched on to it. In all honesty they are probably one of the better quality on the market. It rode good just wish it had bigger swells. They were pretty wide saddles with lots of bar flare, but they had a lot of rock to the tree and wouldn't fit a wide flat back. It really didn't fit many horses at all. I had one huge 16 hand horse it fit great and that was about it.
I know you said cactus but the CJ series was pretty similar. Hoping it helps. |

Location: Idaho | Loved my Cactus CJ, unfortunately the horse I had it for passed away. I regret selling it!! So well made, comfortable, and well balanced.
That particular saddle was made for those wider mutton withered horses. My boy was as wide as he was tall and fit him great. They are very well made and quality saddles. |

Location: Under The Big Sky Of Texas | Are you looking at the Charmayne James Record breaker? The twist was to wide for me, but beautiful saddles that are made very very well. Theres a few on here on the sale page, and very well taked care of that wont break the bank. |

Location: Somewhere around here | Nope, not a Charmayne James Cactus saddle, just an older style of cactus barrel saddle; like this http://tinypic.com/r/nfnqjd/9 it's definitely a Cactus and I have the serial number. If it is a Charmayne James one it doesn't say it anywhere.

Location: Under The Big Sky Of Texas | Nope that is not a CJ..I know that Cactus do fit some of the wider horses. I had a CJ record breaker for just a short time cause it hurt my hips, so all I can say is they are a nice built saddle..

Location: The best kept secret in TX | If you have serial number call Cactus. They can tell you the exact tree in this saddle.
Each saddle they make has a different tree depending on how the customer orders it.
Give them the serial number, ask for the tree style and maker. Once you have this enter it into Google and it should tell you everything you need to know about the tree.
Asking an open ended question about a production saddle won't get you very far unless you know the exact tree in the saddle. Cactus uses a higher grade leather on most of their saddles but just like every production saddle they will have a lower grade saddle, a mid grade saddle, and a higher end saddle. Always keep that in mind. Good luck! And if you need help sleuthing just PM me

Location: Somewhere around here | Thanks guys! I contacted Cactus on Facebook Messenger Monday morning but didn't get a response. I guess I'll just have to call them. I heard their customer service is good on the phone but if you go online for help it can take quite a while. |

Location: Jersey Girl | I had a Cactus Marlene and loved it. Good quality leather and workmanship BUT if you buy brand new and try to sell in like new condition you are lucky to get half what you paid new. They don't hold their value at all. |

Any update from Cactus?
I was finally able to have some time to call them this morning and they told me the year the size of the gullet, the size of the seat, and the tree. All she was able to tell me about the tree was it's a regular Cactus Barrel Tree. But I'm very thankful that I called because the gullet seems perfect for my horse. |

Location: Northern Ontario | I have a CJ Cactus saddle. The quality is pretty nice. Similar to my double J lynn mackenzie. I bought it for my wide flat backed mare but with a 1" pad it fits my 3year old pretty well too! I don't like the newer ones with the round skirt. |
