| I'm just curious if you wrap or boot only the front legs or both?
and why?

| I only use sport boots on his front legs. He absolutely hates hind boots, and will kick and stomp if he has them on. |

| When I'm watching webcasts, alot of the futurity riders are only using front boots, especially the pro girls!
is it just quicker for them, trying to save time?
where as the american slack I saw lots of boots all around
or am I thinking to hard into this haha I notice alot of what people are doing, I like to know why haha

Location: NC | My little gelding gets down in the ground and has cut his fetlocks so he is booted all around or booted front and polo'd back. My older gelding is usually only booted front unless ground is bad and then i will polo him. Hes not a fan of boots and hes a stocky guy so i will leave them off sometimes

Location: North Dakota | I used to religiously boot all 4 legs.
Now I usually don't put back boots on Red. He's had some fence injuries in the past and the boots just don't seem to sit right anymore. I ran him this summer without back boots and never noticed a difference. So, I guess less is more.
Shotgun I have usually still run with back boots on him ... but I was lazy a few times and didn't and couldn't tell a difference.
Knock on wood, I've never had a horse damage a back boot. Front boot, yes, but not a back boot. Plus if they are going to knick themselves, they are usually going to knick themselves way low where a sport boot doesn't cover anyway (but a bell boot would). So I've just started questioning with myself on "WHY" with the back boots. I've never had a horse burn themselves either, but obviously have heard people say they've had it happen to their horse. |

for 90% of the riding I do, I only use bell boots/overreach boots. Only actually boot up to run. |

Same....
Bell Boots is all anything gets at home. Exhibitions stuff has to "earn" boots for that unless I'm making an all out run.
If I get something in that is burning themselves all put polos or boots on. IMO some horses like the less blunky feeling of polos on the back. |

It's so hot down here most of the year that I don't want to get their legs excessively warm just to exercise during the week. I'll put them on when we do something at speed when there's a risk they could interfere and cut their leg. |

Agreed!
I'm not a fan of them for everyday riding. Thats not how they were meant to be used. just like to don't wrap a race horse everyday they get exercised. Wraps are meant for works, boots are meant for runs to avoid injury from cuts.
People put them on and plod around at practice nights not getting out of a lope and have them on for hours..doing more harm than good. |

Location: North Dakota | I never ride in any type of boot other than an overreach boot if needed. During a run it depends on the horse. Right now with the young horse I am riding, I only boot the front. My mare I was running before got booted all around. |

At home - no one gets boots Hauling: Colts - get polos on front first, then move to boots on front & polos on the back, then boots on the back as well if their turning style warrants it. Finished horses - Boots on all 4 during runs only. This is modified according to each horses' preference (I have had some that REFUSE to run with boots on the back). |

I think my gelding has this problem. I used to run him with nothing on the back, then he injured his hind tendon (not riding related) so I now use boots during our runs so he has the extra support. I feel like he doesn't run as hard, but it could be my imagination. He doesn't mind wearing them, I just don't feel like he's going all-out. I may need to breeze him with them on |

Location: Where the long tails flow, ND | Running, always something on all 4's. At home I ride in bell boots and split boots only so that the tendon strengthens and doesn't weaken being supported every single ride.
I have a mare that burns through polo wraps in the back, I just imagine what her fetlocks would be doing without anything on them. The one time I didn't put anything on the hinds, and came out with a knick. Those legs do some funky things during a run and I don't want to chance it. |

My sister had one that hated boots. She run him with bell boots and the small splint boots on the front for some form of protection, an actual SMB he wouldn't run. |

Location: Kansas | My geldings all run with boots or polos all the way around. Chance, Fred, and Streak run in polos all the way around, and Cliff runs with hind boots (he'll burn through polos in about 3 runs) and either boots or polos on the front. I keep boots in the trailer that fit everyone (except Fred because boots don't fit him right) so I can do boots instead of polos in a pinch. |

Location: SE Missouri | daily - bells with light splint boots if I'm going to be doing drills (no splints if I'm just going to be exercising/just loping big circles and not a lot of crossing over or roll backs)
runs - bells always, usually boots all the way around. I will run with just front boots on occasion and have never had an issue with fetlocks getting burned (except roping). It is cheap insurance but I think some horses just flat don't like them. |
