Does anyone have any tricks or ideas for powerful horses that throw u backwards coming out of the barrel? I know I should be grabbing my horn, but it all happems so quick that I get thrown back before I grab. Then I brace on my rein which of course elevates his head. I think I just need a seat belt.

When you grab your horn, are you pushing or pulling on it? I would be pushing on it into the barrel and pulling on it coming out of the barrel to stay with him.

Practice getting to your horn at slower speeds. I have the newbies, practice at a walk.... that should just be muscle memory. get to the set point, plant your hiney, push on horn. As you come around you are going from hiney down and pushing to pulling and getting the hiney up and shoulders forward. Do it a million times at the walk and trot and it will just start to happen in a run. Then do some Yoga. :)

I couldnt agree more with everything that everyones suggested so far. It really comes down to core strength, muscle memory and being able to keep up with your horse.
