Location: chasing kids and animals | Ok guys I have a filly who has ulcers and not this is not my first horse to have them but here is the question. Omeprozole is so dang exspensive and I did my research and if you look at most products it say Aloe Vera and Slimmy Elm bark powder. I called all natural store and I can get these 2 things ( aloe for stomach which is higher concentrate that you normally buy at Walmart etc..)
What other type things? I know probiotics and stuff which she is on, She is not on sweet feed or anything like that, she has 24/7 hay and grass.
Just tryin to get some feed back here.

I feel your pain. Mine all get FORCO once a day and a scoop of the curost Stomach formula. I really do see a huge difference with those products. The curost really does coat and heal stomach and hind gut. When I HAUL to races though, all of mine get a dose of ulcerguard paste. Yep, its 30.00 a tube but they can get ulcers so quickly away from home or in the trailer so I just have to do it. |

Location: South Georgia | I went with Abler Abgard. It is omeprazole in the same strength as Ulcergard but it was about $275 for a full 30 days of full strength treatment. They healed. Now I just have her on alfalfa and U-gard as preventative, although Abler also sells a preventative supplement. |

| Look into GastroMax3 also. Its cheaper than the ulcerguard. |

| I had to treat 20 plus horses 2yrs ago for ulcers due to a toxic hay issue. The first few got omeprazole and I could not afford to do the rest because I already had a 6500 vet bill trying to save a couple horses. So I used curost stomach formula on several with great results. I ended up making up my own due to cost and so many to treat I used marshmellow, aloe, papaya, slippery elm and licorice root for about 30 days and then they stayed on marshmellow , aloe and papaya for a while longer. I have also had good luck adding pumpkin seeds and chia seeds to their diet. My horses all seem healthy and happy now. |

Location: Ohio girl moved to PA | I had amazing results with the DAC cool gut. super affordable too. I saw a huge difference in my guy in just under 2 weeks and the 5lb tub lasted me almost 80 days. I think i paid around $35 for it. |

I treat for ulcers for $6/day using abler omeprazole from abler.com. I have used it on numerous horses. It is awesome stuff. This being said, I have also had good results (after treating) with slippery elm bark, licorice root & L-glutamine (found in cabbage). I ordered them in bulk of the internet because herbs (IMO) take longer to work, so it was just best for me to buy that way. |

| I have used Jeremiahs Ulcer Repulser on several different occasions and had fantastic results. I highly recommend it. Its pretty cheap too if you wanted to just keep a horse on it long term. |

Ask for Dr. Ford's mix with the omeprazole/renitidine (sp?) mix....should be about $250 for 30 days depending on horse size. You will need a script from a vet, normally costs you about $20.
Even if thats too much $$$ order a few tubes and use them at shows then do your natural stuff all the time. If your being cheap I like aloe, gastroplex, and alfalfa hay in front of them 24/7 |

I give one dose 24 hours before I load them in the trailer. This way by the time they actually load its in their system. I know people who give a dose just minutes before loading but in my opinion it won't work that fast.. Then they get a dose every 24 hours they are away from home. |

That was from GastroPLUS. A study done on TB race horses in training. Nothing changed with their program other thna adding GastroPLUS. The start and scope date are in each picture. The 3rd picture had the worst case and so was on GastroPLUS longer |

| Abler makes a great product that's inexpensive compared to a lot of other brands. Plus it's very proven to heal ulcers.
I tried marshmallow root powder and aloe vera powder from a health food store as a preventative and while the marshmallow root worked fine, I could not for the life of me get the horses to eat the aloe powder. Don't blame them either, I tried it and about threw up. The most bitter thing I've ever tasted.
Gastroplex by MVP is a good preventative also. |

Location: SoCal | Curious if anyone has had success with U7 by Finish Line? It seems pretty cost effective and I feel weird about completely "neutralizing" the acid from a horse's stomach, so I like that it isn't an antacid or "acid production blocker" as Finish Line advertises.
I'm going to try my horse with ulcer symptoms on FORCO, but got a free sample of U7 as well. She's a very nervous nelly so I want a little more GI support than just FORCO.
Where as I noticed a lot of change on my one mare when she went off food and started acting colic like with feeding dac's Cool Gut, I can't get this horse to eat it without it being really mixed into her beet pulp/rice bran, and I've noticed no change with it on her. My other mare I fed it before she ate her regular meal in the PM, and it worked great. She was back to finishing her food in 2 or 3 days after not finishing her feed in 2 weeks. When she's not hauling a ton she's fine, so I try to only get it to her when she's hauling a lot. Just not sure about the antacid in it, so I'm looking for other options that won't break the bank. |

Daily regimen as a preventative-I use and sell Equinety (which is a powder over grain that all my horses like & it is a multi use supplement) and very cost effective! It’s $100 for 3 months and only $1/day. Used as ulcer preventative, joints, calming, hoof, allergy, healthy coat, & more! I also use Smartpak Gut Ultra from www.smartpak.com, pellet...$65/mo...but on another horse only use the smartpak aloe pellets, which is only $18/mo.
My barrel horses all get Zesterra when hauling & on race days. I also give 10 ml of Omeprazole/rhinadine paste on race days. Here is my link on Equinety:
