I'd love to buy a PHT blanket but my horse is terrible with any blanket. He shreds them up and gets them so dirty! If I did buy a PHT blanket, how in the world would I be able to protect it??

Mine are always tied up or stalled when wearing theirs. If it's chilly out I throw a light sheet over it too.

I put a nylon sheet over my PHT blanket on my one horse that is hard on blankets.

How often and how long do you guys use your blankets? Looks like I'll be able to get one next month. I'll definitely use it when we're trailering to jackpots but we don't go more than a few times a month.

I try to use mine almost daily if I can. I board and a different person does each feeding, so I don't even risk leaving it on and having them turned out in it. There's trees in their turnouts, they'd last an hour out there. Right now I have 3 horses to work in the evenings, plus 3 stalls to clean. Only 2 are mine and get PHT sheets. I'll put them on and ride the extra horse, who is about a 1.5 hour ride, then I'll work the young one & put her sheet back on when I unsaddle. The one with a lot of chiro issues has now sat about 2.5 hours with his on & then I put it back on when I unsaddle him. Then they're on while I clean the 3 stalls & everyone cools out enough to eat their food. That's become my routine. If I'm hauling somewhere the sheets go on when I leave and typically don't come off unless they're saddled

I have had my horse turned out most of the winter with his on to help combat the soreness that comes with being on ice and deep snow all the time. If I'm turning out, I NEVER do so without a blanket over top. During the season he is in his the entire time we are on the road, except for when he is saddled... much like the above response suggests :) I love love love mine and have never regretted the purchase!!

The more you use it, the better.
As long as it's on for 20-30 minutes he will get benefit.
Before I sold mine (needed $$$ or would've kept it) I would put it on while I got everybody fed and tended to, then take it off to turn them back out.
