Location: In The Snow, AZ | I just found out that a friends puppy tested positive for parvo. She brought him to our home last week and he’s been around our two dogs and new puppy.
I obviously know it’s highly contagious. And the likelihood that I’m already screwed is known. Do I have any course of action? We can’t afford to treat three dogs for parvo. I don’t even know what to do. |

Location: Muskogee, OK | Likely won't affect your older dogs especially if they are fully vaccinated but the puppy is still highly susceptible. If the puppy isn't showing any signs at this point I would contact your veterinarian about boostering the DHPP vaccination. |

| The worst place you can take a healthy horse or dog is a vet clinic ..
that is where all the sick animals go.
First signs of parvo is serious diarrhea ... if they survive .. most are sickly or
or have physical or mental problems the rest of their lives.
Your smart breeders do not allow anyone near their puppies due to their
clothes may carry the virus from where they have been puppy shopping and infect
their entire kennel for years.
When I was raising hunting labs with British and German bloodlines and selling in sports
magazines.. I sold by photos and no stranger was allowed to touch anything near my
kennels until they were 20 weeks old... after they had their 3rd shots at 16 weeks.
Then they could pickup or ship the one they had picked.
Sunshine is your best sterilizer ... so put dog outside and any bedding or other objects
you can outside and flip them over several times daily for more sunshine over 3-4 days ...

Location: Under The Big Sky Of Texas | Is your puppy started on his shots? The two older dogs should be fine as long as they have had all their shots, puppy I would be concern about if not have been started on his shots yet.
Had a friend whos whole littler got parvo and she got them on gatorade sports drink, she used a syringe to get the drink down them around the clock and by golly she saved them all. |

| Bleach your floors, run dog dishes through the dishwasher (or wash in hot soapy water), and run blankets and dog toys through the washing machine. Even if the puppy didnt drink out of the bowls or touch the toys, wash them anyways. |

Location: In The Snow, AZ | Thank you everyone for the information and thoughts. So far, we aren’t seeing any symptoms but its going to be a long two weeks of waiting. The puppy had her initial shots, but hadn’t had her booster yet.
The puppy that it originated with isn’t doing so well. Unfortunately, they aren’t in a position to spend a whole lot of money. He spent one night at the emergency vet and was sent home with antibiotics. However they are headed back to the regular vet as I type this.
Please say a prayer and cross your fingers for my babies. |

Did you call your vet and let her/he know of your concerns? Maybe go ahead and get the puppy around round of puppy shots? |

When I was in college back on the 80’s, my new pup got Parvovirus. I didn’t have much to spend on him, but the vet kept overnight and sent me home with meds,too. He pulled through even the vet didn’t think he would. He had to have a leg amputated just a few months later due to a severe injury. That puppy grew up to be an intelligent, big strong dog. Hope your friends have as good a luck as I did. |

Location: In The Snow, AZ | We went to the feed store and picked up vaccines for all the dogs and administered them the night we found out about my friends pup. So they all have received them, but it’s still a waiting game.
We did contact the vet and they basically said to just sanitize and wait to see what happens. |

| My puppy got Parvo 6 years ago and we have no idea where it came from. We had another puppy at the same time and she never got sick. We sanitized everything. The one that got sick has gone off food and was throwing up everything. We were not in a position to spend lots of money at the time either so went home with Tamiflu, and we gave her pedialyte every few hours. I also boiled her chicken to entice her to eat. She pulled throw in a week or so and has been great ever since. Just keep a close on and water intake and output and hopefully have a head start. |

Location: South Georgia | I purchased a 2.3 lb. jack russell puppy (this was 15 years ago now) that was 8 weeks old when we picked him up. A few days later, he was feverish, would not eat, and lethargic. Took him to the vet and he had a 106 degree fever. They started fluids immediately. I don't remember what all they gave him, but fluids were the biggest component. He was there for several days. He had what was later determined to be a new strain of parvo. The breeder had a big outbreak and it affected so many of her dogs. He spent 3 days (if I recall) at my vet (the breeder paid all fees) and then the breeder had me bring him back to her to stay at her vet for another few days. After that, he ended up being just fine. It was very frightening though. VET ASAP! I did have another dog at the same time and he never picked it up. I do not recall sanitizing anything.

Location: LA Lower Alabama | Watch the youngest and keep them all hydrated. The worst cases I saw were the ones that got sickly for a few days and the owner didn't really know how much they had been drinking before it hit hard and became obvious. Hang in there |

Location: Texas | Were the adult dogs vaccinated against parvo as puppies ? Has your puppy started it’s puppy vaccination series?
You need to bleach everywhere you possibly can where the puppy went at your house.
Also the puppy needs not one vaccine alone it will need a series of three shots given about 4 weeks apart. They aren’t considered immune until the third booster. Adults previously vaccinated should be okay with just one booster.

Location: In The Snow, AZ | The adults were vaccinated a year and a half ago and as pups. We have been regrettably inconsistent, as they never leave the property.
The puppy had her initial shots, but we hadn’t gotten her boosters done yet.
They now have all been vaccinated. Nobody is showing any signs at this point. I have been watching like a hawk. Everyone is still drinking and eating normally. Our big guy, and English mastiff, seemed a little on the lazy side yesterday, but is normal today. Everyone is happy and playful. I’m hopeful that the puppy wasn’t shedding the virus when he was over.
The puppy, Barkley, spent the initial night at the emergency vet. And is now spending his third night at the regular vet. He still has no interest in food and is depressed. Poor baby. They tried to force feed him a little today to see if it would jumpstart him and if he could hold it without vomiting, to no avail. He still threw up. They are in it for the long haul and have since sold a project truck and a horse trailer to do what they can for him financially. Please continue praying! It is appreciated more than y’all know. |

Location: In The Snow, AZ | Well, I think we are passed the vital amount of days. Everyone is happy and healthy here. Huge sigh of relief!
My friends pup got to go home yesterday, finally. They’re still somewhat having to force feed him as he’s not too interested in the bland food he’s allowed to eat. But he’s drinking on his own and not vomiting anymore.
Good news all around. I’m still keeping a close eye. I appreciate everyone’s prayers and thoughts! |

Location: In The Snow, AZ | We are all in the clear by Gods good grace. I don’t know if it’s because the puppy wasn’t shedding the virus, or the late vaccinations, but God is good. We lost our mastiff in September of last year. I couldn’t imagine our three baby’s being wiped out in one lick.
We have had no symptoms. Happy, healthy, bubbly dogs. And my friends puppy is back to good health as well! He has resumed eating and drinking and the vomiting and diarrhea has been completely gone for a few days.
I am so thankful and can’t tell you all enough how appreciative I am for the prayers. I have one human child ;) but these doggies are my kids. I know you all understand. |

Parvo
