In your area if a time is announced, do they just decide if the time is legit or do they randomly decide a horse can't run said time? Maybe this is a regional thing. Around here, if a time is announced it is chiseled in stone. I am just wondering.

As I recall, Hailey Kinsel ran a smokin time at the NFR and even I thought the timer messed up but her time stood. Same around here. She did come back a couple of days later and almost duplicate the fast time.

Just wondering about other areas besides NE TX.

Around here, central Oklahoma, it is pretty much chiseled in stone, I believe.  I have seen questionable times run before but I don't think anyone has had the cajones to approach the timekeepers and question them.  That being said, to err is human and it is quite possible to give the wrong time, though I would hope it wasn't done intentionally.  It probably does happen, though.

I have never seen a time changed.   Has this happened somewhere?

The timer is the timer around here.

I give preference to jackpots that utilize timer boards for everyone to see, and most of the ones around here have made that investment. I trust people less than I trust equipment.

Some of the fastest runs I’ve seen did not “look” fast, but they were smooth, efficient, with no wasted steps. Another thing to consider is the luck of stride when you reach the timer line, breaking it with the nose vs the chest - likely looking at hundredths or thousandths there and not tenths, but I like a horse who keeps their head down running home.

Hailey’s testimony at cowboy church the morning after she made that run at the NFR really struck me - she talked a lot about being prepared to “make that run” when God decides to give it to you and the stars align for a really special run. I think every decent jackpot horse is capable of having the run of their life if we are prepared to ride them through it.

Speaking of NE TX races, are you going to Martha's race in Marshall in a couple of weeks? I think we may enter the Jr. NFR race.
