| I have never heard of this but my vet said it may be the best thing I can do for my roping horse that has fusing hocks and stifle arthritis. He has had two shots of Pentosan and one shot of Adequan so far and is acting like a whole new horse!!! I had gave him the first shot of Pentosan and started the loading dose of Adequan on his second shot of Pentosan. Vet said to do Pentosan AM and Adequan PM.
Like I said....I've never heard of anyone doing this but he has also made a turn around in the breeding paddock. For the first time in 3 years.....he is already dropping while approaching the mare and stays up on the mare the whole time. We were having issues with him trying to mount without being fully dropped or dismounting before being finished with the mare. Hence our pregnancy rates were very pitiful. Probably too early to tell but it seems to be doing something.
I'll update as the weeks follow to monitor progress!! |

Location: South Georgia | I haven't heard of this combo. In fact, I have heard that Pentosan and Adequan are essentially the same thing. I am not sure how correct this is though.
I have had some success with Pentosan (by itself) before though. A loading dose, and then every 2 weeks. |

Location: South Georgia | Well, I don't know. I tried searching for "pentosan and adequan together" and came up empty handed. |

| I have used both at the same time, but not exactly how you are. My horses get 2 full adequan loading series a year. 6 months apart. I have done that and used pentosan monthly inbetween loading doses with lots of success! I can't see how yours will hurt! |

Just make sure you don't dose the pentosan within a few days of a run. It thins the blood and if they do bleed, they bleed worse. Even injuries where they over reach etc will bleed more. |

| I have never given Pentosan with Adequan but years ago when Pentosan was just becoming popular my vet recommended that it be given with Glucosamine or Shark Cartilage becuase apparently, it was more effective that way. There is even a Pentosan/Glucosamine product called PentAussie. Based on my vet's theory, the Pentosan and Adequan combo should be very effective. I hope it continues to be successful for your guy! |

I wish they made PentAussie still but they no longer make it. |

Location: North Dakota | OP, were the hocks and stifles injected prior to starting the combination?
I've never used that combination either, but for some of the questions: pentosan : pentosan polysulfate adequan: Polysulfated Glycosaminoglycan technically not the same. As far as I know, pentosan helps "wash" the arthritis from the joint where adequan helps the cartilage rejuvinate. Actually should be a good combination. Also, it looks like pentaussie is still available: https://www.heartlandvetsupply.com/p-4547-pentaussie-equine.aspx?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&adpos=1o1&scid=scplp4547-5968--&sc_intid=4547-5968--&gclid=Cj0KCQjw-uzVBRDkARIsALkZAdmyXaV4mQvID96EcfGixiD8OD3LxbVNeSSlUL_g-hbo2M04CCPvw6YaAnYHEALw_wcB
There are pentosan gold and platinum combinations available that combine pentosan with glucosamine (gold), the platinum adds Hyaluronic acid (legend) to the pentosan and glucosamine. |
