Location: KS | My mare bled last weekend. I had her scoped the same day. Thank God it wasn't a lung bleed. Lots of capillary bursts, her trachea was full of fluid, and airways were very irritated and inflamed. We have had very dry windy weather here. She is on antibiotics and Ventipulmin for 7 days. My vet wants me to run her on 3cc of Ventipulmin for a while. Just curious who uses it, how much do you give, how far out, how does your horse react? My mare can be a bit of a fire breathing dragon so I'm hoping I don't end up with a monster. |

Location: In the land of peanuts and cotton | I did for a while. I used it for sever allergies and breathing problems. It was 5cc and I think 2 hours before but not positive on the time. I never saw a difference in his breathing with it. It also didn’t affect him like people said it was. He was just as laid back as he was before it. I did notice it affecting his heart rate and I didn’t like that. Especially not seeing any benefit from it. I use albuterol now. He gets it twice daily and 30min before a run. Also has to get allergy meds twice daily. Much more improvement. |

| I did 3cc, 45 min before a run. I had good luck with it, but it can make them a little wacky. Like hyped up on Mt. Dew. I didn't think it was a long term fix...so I just use Oxy-boost or Air Power. I do have a tube of OE Wind I am going to try. It's a lot of trial and error on what will work for your horse. |

| Yep, used it on one horse. Works well, but play with it at HOME first. It makes some horses pretty hyped up, and my vet said it can scare some horses first couple times you use it. Makes them feel different I guess. She told me to play with dosage and time before a run. We ended up with 5cc 2 hours out. If you have a lung bleeder it INCREASES blood pressure so a big no no. I have heard of horses running off during a run unless they are used to it.

No Ventiplumin is great for any bleeder. It will always help one breathe and reduce fluid in the lungs.
Clenbuterol has been shown to decrease the pulmonary resistance and work of breathing,5 decrease the change in pleural pressure,6 and improve clinical signs of airway obstruction.7 The effect of clenbuterol in the airways is not limited to bronchodilation. Clenbuterol increases ciliary beat frequency and therefore improves airway mucociliary clearance rate in horses with and without COPD.
Above taken straight from the handout of the drug and in any clinical trail.
To the OP when you give clenbuterol make sure you know your horse and his level of activity...you may have to increase activity to burn off his extra energy if giving it over a period of time. Play with the dose. It will make one run. It will clear up colds and breathing issues. It also will make one hot, sweaty, and overtime increases muscle mass. It is has anabolic steroid affect.
If your horse gets too hot and you feel a bronchodialator is needed, but want your horse to stay calm, then ask about giving guanzabenz to lower heart rate and reduce bleeding.

He gets Tri-Hyst twice daily and every 3-4 months he gets a shot but I don’t remember the name of it. |
