My daughters mare had mri today and was diagnosed with bilateral deep digital flexor tendinitis and navicular bursitis changes. They said she has fluid and lesions in the bursa. She is getting a buroscopy tomorrow. Anyone have any experience with this? What treatment or therapies did you use? Did they come back from this? By the way her X-rays were clean and showed navicular bone changes this was all diagnosed by MRI

I had one I ran successfully for several years. He also had DDFT strains two separate times. It is VERY important to have an excellent farrier to keep their feet at the correct angles to prevent any additional strain. We injected bursas and coffin joints periodically as needed, kept on anti-inflammatory and Isoxuprin, and kept him in really good shape physically. I also used magnetic bells and wraps as supplemental therapy (not sure that this made a huge difference) and made sure to use sport boots that fit well and provided lots of tendon support (Iconoclast or any with similar support). Obviously every horse will be different, but it is possible to keep one going with diligent maintenance and care.

A friend of mine had a similar injury to her mare. Unfortunately it wasn't a happy ending but they also had added difficulties, poor hoof conformation and she wasn't easy to keep on stall rest (both played in a factor in the end result). They did do stem cell, stall rest and corrective shoes.

She would randomly come up lame. Would be worse in stall. All X-rays were clean so we did mri and found it.

My gelding was diagnosised with bursitits and 3 DDFT tears from the bottom of the foot to just below the fetlock.  We opted for stem cells and strict rehab.  Diagnosed in January, I was competing (reined cow horse) on him by October.  That was in 2015, I have had no other issues since that time.  He is on a very strict shoeing schedule with Equilibirum shoes, if he gets long he will get a little sore, but as soon as he is freshly shod he is fine.

cmcelroy0308 - 2018-04-02 6:24 PM So he was off about 10 months then?

He was being ridden the entire time.  Rehab included daily riding- starting with a walk, extending the the time, adding a trot, etc.  Within 6 months we were loping straight lines, and up to 45 minutes of riding.  So technically he was off of the show circuit for 10 months, but I was legging him and working cattle again in 7 to 8 months.
