Location: South Georgia | I read this twice before deciding how to respond. The answer is very gray--not black and white for me. I really like a horse that is fancy broke. With that being said, I ride more with my seat and legs. My hands are the last resort. On the barrel pattern, I never really use either direct rein OR neck reining. I don't turn my horses with my hands, but instead, I use my seat ques and legs. On a barrel turn, I only just lift my inside rein and hold it over the center of the neck. My horse will know to turn the barrel and my legs will guide it...not my reins. Outside of the area, I want my horses to respond equally well to both direct and neck reining, but again, I'm using my legs to assist.
So, to answer your question: neither..., and both. LOL |
