Location: SE KS | I have a solid one, like it! It is hot in the summer though as no air can move through it.
I like it better than panels bc, the horse cannot jump out of it. Nor can they catch a stirrup
in it. However, you better trust what you're in the solid pen with, not to "kill" ya, bc you can't
get out either!!!!
I have tried to part with mine, but it's a little work to disassemble, n not takers yet!!! |

Location: Central Texas | I had a solid round pen and the dust was bad in there with no place to go. The bigger issue, though, was that the horses cannot see out of it so their focus was on the handler. Sounds good, right? The problem with that is when they are no longer hemmed in by soild walls they have no experience with ignoring other activity and having to work anyway. All the distractions distracted their attention from me! After I re-built it into a "see through" round pen, they learned to focus on me and ignore all the other stuff going on.

You explained it very well, that's the problem with solid walls is that theres so much distraction once outside those solid walls..I like the solid short walls where you and the horse can see over the walls but still safe for a saddle where the stirrups/foot dont get hung up while riding. |

ditto. We had solid walls and took them down and replaced with panels. If they hit the panels they soon learn to respect them and keep a little distance as they're going around. The posts are railroad ties and then we put some ruff lumber around the top of the panels. They do learn to focus on you rather than all the activity around them. |

| Ours is solid, but there is a small space at the top where they can see out. I love our roundpen. We use it for starting colts, weaning foals, and as a safe place to put new arrivals until they settle in. Ours is Blattner brand. I have no idea on price, we got ours around 12 years ago and it was a show special. The only downside is the weight. Those panels are heavy. We moved it once, with the help of a tractor. |

| I boarded at a place for a while that had one made with extruded metal panels, sort of. It was solid in terms of it would be hard to hook something on it, but you could see out, dust could move etc. the panels were 8’+ tall so one would have been hard pressed to jump. |

Location: Where the stars at night are big and bright, TX | We had one in NM, it was fabulous. It was large. Didn't have the issues discussed here. Not hot or dusty but we had decent footing. |
