So I have a dark bay OTTB and she has a really crappy tail. I love her coat but it is not very shiny. Is there any shampoos that you would recommend for a bay? Also, what conditioners do you use for soft hair and a really nice tail? TIA!

Honestly your feed program will have more to do with coat, mane, and tail condition that any soap or conditioner. To help it though, a leave in conditioner like Mane N Tail in a tail bag will help reduce breakage.

I just use the tub of Orvus paste for shampoo and then a CVS brand conditioner. I use a lot of coconut oil on manes/tails so that helps keep breakage down and helps them grow faster. BioMane also works pretty well for hair & coat as well. I have 2 that are getting half the BioMane dose and doing well on it. I have to clip their bridle paths more often

I’ve actually found the mane n tail shampoo and conditioner and the detangler spray work awesome! They make their hair shiny and soft. I very rarely wash their body but I did last year with this stuff and also gave my bf’s horse a bath (she’d probably never saw shampoo before lol) and I was amazed at the difference. You may also try feeding some flax for her coat.

Cowboy Magic Rosewater Conditioner is totally amazing for mane and tails. Two of our boys literally had knots in their tails--Sean had his pocket knife in hand for his horse when I stopped him and coated both their tails with the conditioner. Left it on overnight and next afternoon I just used my fingers and combed thru their tails. I was way impressed!!

I’m glad someone else besides me still believes in Orvus. Cleans everything from white horses to black horses and everything in between. I wash the mane and tail then conditon them with what ever is on sale at the dollar store. But I do think Vo5 is better just because it’s thicker. While I’m letting the conditioner soak in I’ll go back and wash their body. And rinse it all together. I use an olive oil spray that I get from Dollar Tree for a quick detangle. I spray it in and let it soak in then pick knots out with my fingers before I try to comb.
