Location: NE TX | Got a new breast collar and can't figure out how to attach my keeper to it. It has the metal piece in the middle and no ring just below it to attach to. I've pretty much always had a keeper, but just wondering if going without was a viable option since I either need to rig one up or sadly return this breast collar. |

Never done it personally but could try and see how that works. I'm so spoiled to my keeper I didn't know what to do now and didn't think about it when I purchased this one. |

That's what I did in high school. Forgot about the leather string. I think I had bought a bag of those scrap leather pieces at Tractor Supply for it. You barely saw it. |

Do all Tractor Supply have the leather scraps? I could actually use some for some other things too |

For a long time I just used a spare rubber band like the ones I use for my feet when I run and would just replace it before I ran but one time I forgot to replace it and it popped while I rode and my mare did not appreciate it so I switched to a braided one from The Rein Man here in TX and have used it for about 3-4 years. |

I'm not sure. I use little pieces of leather sometimes to lenghten the connection piece between my front cinch and back cinch also. |

That's what I was going to suggest. It may not stay 100% perfectly centered the entire time, but it's definitely doable so you don't have to return your breastcollar. |

Location: In the land of peanuts and cotton | My keeper broke at a show. I made do with a piece of the thicker cotton string. I said I would get a new keeper but 4 years later still rocking the string. I have seen people run it behind their breastcollar but I’ve never been sure how safe that was. Looks like it would pull it tighter than intended. |

Whenever I did use a keeper it was just leather or shoe string. |

| If you are going to a rodeo with breakaway roping, steal a piece of breakaway string off the fence. Works great and its free! :) |

| I punched a hole high up on the piece that goes down between their front legs and tied a shoelace through it as a keeper. I can run my training fork through it too. |

Send your breast collar back to the place you bought it and make them pay for
the shipping.
There is no excuse for not building a keeper ring in the breast collar ...
unless they had them done in China or India .. or for western pleasure ..
I don't know about other people but I get so tired of having to use a
check off list to make sure the company is not short cutting on the item.
I sent some racing headstalls back recently that the company had changed from all brass
and to a soft metal and not a stainless steel tongue in the buckle and they even
stopped doing the box sewing at the metal fittings. Yet.. they still had the
pictures of their headstall that made them famous in their ad with a $5 price increase!!
I think we Americans are too easy on these mfgrs and the more they get sent back
they will be more honest when making their products.

Don't you just love zip ties!!! Maybe even more versatile than baling twine and gorilla tape. |
