Friend of mine has recently become a dealer and says he can get me a good deal on one. Looking for reviews on the brand, particularly the Pro version. Also curious how much one of them weights? He said right around 40 pounds, but that seems crazy for a barrel saddle?! Most of them I have come across are on the lighter side.

I have 3 Pozzi Pro's and I'm thinking they weight around 32 lbs, not really sure but I know they are not no 40 lbs saddles if they were that heavy I would not beable to throw any of them up on my horses. I really think your friend is going by the shipping weight which is 40 lbs.. I love my Pozzi's thats why I have 3 of them one is a #10 tree, one is a wide and the other one is a standard..
If I can remember I'll try to get the weight on one of them for you if you want me too latler today..

I absolutely love mine and they don't weigh 40lbs maybe 30. I'm only 100lbs and have no trouble carrying and throwing mine up on a horse.

40 lbs may have been the weight to ship one, but not the actual weight of the saddle...not a barrel saddle anyway. My husband has a manufacturing company, so when I sell a saddle, I use his FedEx account and his shipping department to send it off. In the box with all of the packing material, it usually weighs in right at or slightly under 40.

I have a Double J Pro and I love it; probably weighs around 28 lbs if I remember correctly; they are not heavy saddles at all.

If your interested in the JJ line of barrel saddles do yourself a favor and sit in the JJ Pro and a Pozzi before you decide. The swells are different between the two and feel completely different; well at least to me they did:)

I have 2 and LOVE them .... hoping to get a 3rd. The pozzi's have a much deeper seat than the pro's. I bought a pro last nov and recently swapped it for a pozzi. I didnt like the seat not coming up as high. My pro was def heavier than either of my pozzi's are.

I plan to do that. Looking at all the different barrel saddle option they look very similar, but I am sure there must be some difference in each model. I want one that is going to give me the deepest seat feeling and the best straight leg alignment. I don't like when I feel like my leg is being pulled out in front of me.

I'll put my opinion this way...if my barn was burning down (assuming my horses were safe of course), I would risk my life & run back in to save my Double J Lynn McKenzie. I hate just about anything else I ever have to ride in after owning one. Mine's probably around 6-7 years old, used as my main saddle with all my horses, & still looks like it's only a couple months old. And they hold their value super well. I got mine custom straight from Lynn & paid a good chunk bc she put extras on mine that weren't available through any dealers. Mine is decked out to the hilt, custom tooling, painted background, special order conchos, etc. They went above and beyond and I paid less than what they want for brand new basic option ones now. The company is amazing to work with & most people are very pleased with the saddles they get I think. So I wouldn't hesitate to get one if you can find a good deal on one.

Talked to my friend and he thinks I will like the pro better. Guess I will just have to sit in both to decide. My horse needs a custom tree width so I won't actually get to ride in one before ordering it, which is scary.

The pozzi seats are much deeper than the pro's. The pro I had felt more like my cactus charmayne james. That I got rid of bc the seat wasnt deep enough. I made the mistake of buying my pro thinking all double j's had deeper seats and I was terribly wrong. Will never own anything other than a pozzi!
Lyyn mackenzie seats look deeper also!

If you like deep seat go with a Pozzi Pro.. I dont think I would be trusting to much on what this friend says about these saddles since he was telling you the barrel saddles by Double J weight 40 lbs..

The Pro's swells are slightly angled forward and allow you to put your foot more out in front of you instead of straight down where you said you wanted them. I wouldn't say they are a forward hung stirrup like the Josey saddles, but like I said they allow you to get your foot in front of you. The cantle is 4.5. I have never thought that it didn't feel secure. Also, if you decide on a Pro order an entire seat size smaller, they run big.

The Pozzi's have a 5 inch cantle and the swells are not angled forward, they are upright. The stirrups are hung so that your feet stay under you. I think that's why peeps feel more secure in this saddle because you've got your swells right there and a taller cantle.

This is why I thought you'd maybe like the Pozzi over the Pro:

If I were you I would call the saddlery and talk to them about their saddles, they can give you all the right answers, here's their number {361} 293-6364..
On the Pozzi's the swell and the cantle are the same hight so that deeper seat.

Yes, I definitely want the one that is going to keep my leg more under me vs in front of me.

I have a Speedster and really like it...it has a nice deep seat and I've ridden in treeless for over 5 years so that's saying something LOL.
It keeps my feet right under me, not forward...which is an adjustment for me but I do like them.
You can really tell it's a quality saddle, even used.
Mine has the #10 tree.

I have a Pozzi Pro #10 wide. I like how it sits me, it's deep. However, I don't think it fits my horse as well as I was hoping. :( I only race in it for now. Might be looking for something else soon.

As far as the seat goes, do they tend to be pretty comfortable for long periods of time? Doesn't seem like they are very padded.
