Location: Missouri | Does anyone do this? Is it possible to pull a BP and also have a truck camper (not a camper shell, like an actual camper that sits in the truck bed) in the bed of your truck? We have an F250 short bed, and I'm seeing more options on the market for short bed trucks as far as truck campers go, but I wasn't sure if logistically, it would work to haul both at the same time. Not worried about weight, more or less room for both with the tailgate down? TIA.

| Absolutely, I'd recommend putting air bags on your truck though. |

Location: North Dakota | A good friend of mind who competes in endurance used to do this ... until she finally bought herself a living quarters trailer.
She went all over the country with her truckbed camper and bumper pull horse trailer. |

Location: Where the buffalo roam | I hauled many miles like that before living quarter trailers became more prevalent. I do recommend using a dually for more stability. They can really get to swaying in windy areas.
I don't know how well that would work with a shortbed and the tailgate down. We always used full size trucks.

| My husband sometimes hauls with a nearby calf roper who has a rig like this. It’s pretty slick he says.
He does have a full size dually though. Depending on the trailer if you have to leave the tailgate down to accommodate the camper your turning radius will be descreased... |

Tail gates come off very easy, we took a few off in different situations so the tail gates would not get in the way or beat up. |

Right, so have we - but if the problem is the camper overhangs the short bed truck you still have the same issue.
I have no experience in truck bed campers to know if they make them for short bed trucks, have only ever seen them in long beds with the tailgate up. That was just my thought that if it overhung the bed at all you’d want to watch the turning radius, whether you’ll hit the tailgate or the camper with the trailer nose. |

Location: Under The Big Sky Of Texas | Op there is so many different styles of truck campers with different ways of hauling a bumper pull trailer most have a different way to install the hitches for the trailers, go to Truckcamper Magazines web site, you have to be carefull of the weight of the camper, theres a article about how to match a truck with a truck camper and hauling with bumper pulls..You see trucks with the campers in the bed pulling horses trailers all the time so not a silly question..Heres a few pictures for you..

Location: midwest mama | I did it for years and loved it. I did have a dually truck though and that made it safer.
The key is to not get a camper that hangs way past the back of your truck or you will have to get a hitch extension. That can make it much less stable. If you get a camper that comes about to the end of your truck you should be okay.

| That's what used to be called a "rodeo rig" around here. That's what a lot of people did before there were living quarters trailers. - Anybody remember the Capri camper brand?

Location: Texas!! | That's what we had! LOL! The Capri camper Rodeodelux, thats how I picked my screen name, we thought it was so funny. We did have some good times in that thing!! My truck was a long wheel base, but not a dually. It was kinda a pain to take on and off, so we just left it on most of the time. I have to admit there are times when I miss the ole rodeodelux..... |

Location: Missouri | Thanks y'all. I've looked around and there are a few lightweight campers made specifically for short bed trucks. That said, I didn't think about stability in the wind if not hauling with a dually.
They're pretty expensive (newer) anyway. Goodness. Husband wants a camper of some sort, but will only use a few times a yr (eyeroll....) and I'll be needing a new trailer in a few yrs but I rarely stay overnight. So I had an 'Oh this may be an option' moment. |

My truck was 3/4 ton chevy, it was not a dually, and I never had any problems with it. We have a couple of really big campers we pull with a dually, and they feel like they sway in the wind the same as the truck bed camper. Have you checked out the capri camper site in Texas? They use to be the most affordable ones. |

Location: in the ozone | I pulled a 2H BP with a pick up camper for a few years, BUT was a long bed truck (3/4T). I just do not like the short bed trucks, period - just my opinion, I like room in a long bed and there are also many more options for a good used camper in the longer bed ones. I DID buy a camper new a few years ago & it was a POS. Did not haul a trailer behind that one, but it was a constant drive to the company to fix the next problem. I think they are out of business, but stay away from Sunlites, used or new. |

I think when we finally do replace our truck, we'll likely get a long bed. But ours has been paid off for 7 years and still has a lot of miles left. But you're right.....a lot Lee options for a short bed as far as campers go. Sigh |

I traveled with friends that had a Capri camper and a 3 horse aluminum Holz trailer. Went many a mile to rodeos in California in that Rig. My dog and I would sleep in the little bunk bed over the truck cab and my friend and her husband would sleep on the double bed below. Nothing fancy, but worked for us. That was back in the day when a friend could buddy with their husband and then you could buddy with her. Saved a lot on fuel. |

I looked up their website today. They have inexpensive little ones with basically just a bed/ac/room for a mini fridge and microwave. My husband will probably roll his eyes. But honestly, as little as he will camp and as little as I will go overnight, I don't want much more than that. |

Location: Northwest | My husband use to haul a Capri and BP back in the day. Friends of our use to too. They didn’t sell theirs and now their daughter is using it for college rodeo. Works slick. |
