So I am looking for a saddle pad. I was looking at 5 star pads but it is out of my price range. My saddle measures a 24¨ so I need a 26/28¨ with 1¨ thickness. My budget is $150. What do you recommend? TIA

So, I doubt you'll find those exact measurements. So, I would look for a 28x30; that's 28 long 30 wide. You can find a nice, used 5star in that price range on Facebook. You may also want to look at Diamond Wool. I have had good luck with them on a budget.

SPH would be just a squeak over your budget and they use the same wool provider as 5 Star, very nice pads.

Remember that 1” pads are not all created equal. Quality wool does not compress like lower quality. We rope with 1 and 1/8” 5 Stars and I cannot imagine putting a pad that thick under a barrel saddle. My thickest barrel pad is 7/8” and my most used barrel pad is a 1/2” - both 5 stars.

Wouldn’t hesitate to buy a SPH next though.

Just curious here but why so thick of a pad? Is your saddle not fitting right?

I was recommended to have a 1" if it compresses but since as you said, if it is good quality, I would go with a 3/4" or 7/8" What you you all say?

I would go with 5 Star. There is a Used 5 Star group on FB - here it is - https://www.facebook.com/groups/5Starpads/. Might be able to find a nice used one there.

Since your budget is 150.00 then I would save up more and get a 5 Star, 150.00 is not to far off from getting a nice good saddle pad like a 5 Star and since you like a 1" I would go with a 7/8" 5 Star.

I would go with a Best Ever OG. They make a 28 x 28. I prefer 3/4" pads unless my saddle is a little big for the horse. Otherwise a thicker pad makes them pop up in the back. I have 3 Best Evers and they are nice pads for the money. If you go through a dealer you should be able to get a nice pad with your choice of wear leathers for that price. They aren't a 5 star, but they are still great pads.

I am BHW's 5 Star dealer so if I can help you, just msg me.  As someone suggested above, you sometimes can find good deals on used ones on the Used 5 Star page on FB.
