Location: Mountains of VA | It was a great race!! I felt Mike Smith did just enough to get the win for Justify.....no need to push/ask for too much in that slop. The conditions were worse than the Derby but I still enjoyed watching. |

| I like justify but they don't call Belmont the graveyard of would be champions for no reason. That 1.5 mile is likely to wear on him. He's tired. They said the same about Secretariat tho and then the world got to see 31 lengths of pure greatness. Can't wait to see how he does and I hope he holds them off to the line again this time! I hope Baffert works some magic and brings him back strong.

| Prior to the Preakness, Justify had a heel bruise on his left rear and
and Curtis Burns a well known farrier was flown in to see what needed
to be done.
They had used a Z Bar shoe to protect the heel and Burns did his thing
with inner wall support with dental adhesive and a 3/4 shoe and frontal nails
and then ran Justify with a full standard shoe in the race.
Justify has slow galloped his first 1 1/2 mile to test the track with a
let's go attitude. This is great news considering the wear and tear
of the previous two races and the small amount of time for a horse
to recover from the stress.
I'm sure you remember BIG BROWN that won the first two races and
had an even worse case of bruised heel than Justify.
In this video watch the bump when BB is moved to the outside as he
completed the first turn and got stepped on. He did not have the
'want to' to regain his stride and no desire to increase his speed
and at the straightaway his jockey pulled him to the outside and
loped home with an outrider in close to assist if needed ….

The tiring factor on the Belmont track is simple .. it is more of a giant
oval with almost no straightaways compared to other tracks. This
is not good since the horse really gets a hard workout running on
his left lead for the big part of the race !!
On a normal oblong track a horse leaves the gates in the left lead
and after the 1st turn is switched to the right lead and at the far
turn to his left lead and then running home to the right lead which
gives each side a chance to rest and have a "fresh" right lead
to finish the race.
You will see horses lose a lot of races when the jockey fails to switch
to the right lead going home... SMARTY JONES is a prime example.
His jockey felt secure with the win and then got challenged and
the jockey desperately tried to switch to the right but the other
horse already had his momentum going and won the race.
Expect the usual to happen in the Belmont. Fresh horses will be
added that never ran in the Preakness or Derby and a couple
that ran the Derby but not the Preakness so they come in
well rested to run their best against the horse running the
3rd lap of the Triple Crown.
WATCH Victor Espinoza the jockey of AMERICAN PHAROAH easing
out of the gates and setting a slow pace while working to keep him on
his left and right lead changes with a good final burst of speed after
switching to his right lead on the run home !!!
This was a beautiful run keeping the pack in control at a slower
pace and saving your horse with proper lead changes during the race.

Of course it was a year of different victors in all three races and neither Always Dreaming nor Cloud Computing showed up to the Belmont...it would be just my luck for a Triple Crown to happen this year lol. |

I loved watching that video, thanks for the share. AP never struggled in that race, he was smooth the whole time. I am not sure Justify is going to have that chance. He's going to be challenged from the get go. If Mike can keep him at a slow pace, and just let him cruise, he might have a chance at the end, but there are some tough horses in this line up. Bravazo being one of them. Good luck to Justify!!! |

Location: Ky | Great horse, great trainer, great rider. Winning combination. I've been on Justify from the start. We went to a Derby party at Ellis Park and I put $100 to win on Justify that day. We couldn't make it over there for the Preakness but I was working in henderson the day before and stopped by Ellis Park and put a $100 to win on him for the Preakness.
We were back at Ellis yesterday. I had a $100 to win on him again. But also added an exacta box with him and Bravazo and also bet Bravazo across. Then 5 minutes before the race I decided to put a little across on Vino but I also put another $250 to win on Justify.
So we had a good day!! 
Justify is an awesome horse. Still growing up. He will win the Breeder's Cup too. |

What makes me laugh is that the one they quote as whining about Restoring Hope working to help Justify...is the guy that is half owner of Noble Indy and Vino Rosso...who admittedly planned along with Pletcher to have one horse push the pace and wear Justify out so their other horse could beat him at the finish. His only gripe is that his speed horse couldn't run with Justify and their plan didn't work! Too funny.
Legal strategy is legal strategy...and they all do it. But for me...I just don't think it would have mattered. Justify got up front early and stayed there. Period. |

AND AS THEY MAKE THE TURN … HE JERKS HIS NOSE INTO THE TURN TO MAKE
USE OF IT TO GET INTO A LEFT LEAD … NOW WATCH THE HORSE SPEED UP
ONCE HE REGAINS HIS LEADS … IT TAKES A GOOD RIDER TO SQUARE A HORSE
UP AT A GALLOP.... AND GET BACK INTO THE RACE!!
KEEP WATCHING … RESTORING HOPE … IS A SPRINTER … HE RUNS UP ALONG
SIDE JUSTIFY AND BOXES THE HORSE BEHIND HIM AGAINST THE RAIL …
THIS CONTINUES TO THE 2.0 MINUTE MARK WHEN RESTORING HOPE RUNS

OK.. you have read my synopsis of how you box horses in and allow another
horse to settle and set the pace with a good jockey who does not get
flustered and run the air out of his horse and lose the race ….
NOW WATCH THE SMARTY JONES RACE ..
THE REPLAY AT THE END SHOWS YOU SEVERAL JOCKEY MISTAKES WITH
SMARTY JONES …
1.) Smarty Jones gets "herded" by other jockeys riding sprinters to set a
fast pace to tire SJ out to keep him from winning and his jockey fell for it.
Instead of coasting and letting the sprinters run themselves out ……. he
decided to out run them too early in the race …
2.) BIG BIG BIG MISTAKE .. jockey failed to switch SJ into his right lead
to get a fresh side as they turned for home at the straightaway thinking
he had the race won.
Now watch the frantic attempt to switch SJ to the right lead when his
jockey looks back and see's Birdsong coming with momentum … watch
his hands doing a see-saw motion to try to change leads which never
happened when a horse is stretched out running as hard as they can ..
You can see Birdsong in his right lead and Smarty Jones still in his
left lead he used all the way around the far turn as they cross the
finish line …
As you can hear from the announcer and others … they all knew the
blue bloods in Kentucky were doing all they could by herding Smarty
to keep an outsider from winning the triple crown and of course after
all was said and done …. Smarty Jones was kicked out of Kentucky
to go back home to live in his own backyard …
