So I recently was cleaning my saddle for the 2nd time ever and the roughout seat jockey and fenders turned darker. The first time I saw that the leather got darker and was like, okay it will fade and go back to how light it was originally. Nope, now it is darker and staying that way. I used Oakwood leather conditioner. Do you all know of any way to make the leather lighter? And do you have any ideas of new conditioner to use? TIA!

Roughout will stain. I’m not familiar with that cleaner so I don’t know if it is or not. Sweat and blue jean dye as well as just dirt and dust will darken roughout.

When I clean roughout I only oil or condition the back, smooth side of the leather. I use sandpaper and a wire brush to clean the nap. I’ve heard of folks actually scrubbing roughout and then freshening it back up with sandpaper and a wire brush once dry, but I’ve never tried it that way.

Wire brush and sandpaper only on roughout... When you ride in this saddle be prepared to buy new jeans after your ride...

I shall get a wire brush then. And what grit sandpaper should I get? And I don't ride in jeans, I ride in English pants
