I am taking a pretty long 1400 mile trip across several states next month with my two horses. What does everyone do to plan on where you can stay over night? I know there is horsetrip.com but those are usually private facilities. Any where you can see what fairgrounds are available?

Others on here have posted their route on where they would like to stop and Board Buddies have always come through.

When we went to Arizona, a board buddy told me about a college that had stalls and it being off season, there would be many open stalls. Worked out great as I would have never found that stop on my own.

We use to drive straight through from Illinois to Texas that was 1200 miles. We would stop to water and let them relax. I would unload my horse when it was safe, which most of the time it wasn't. I always had hay in front of them and didn't grain them.

Thanks for the ideas! I'm going from southern CA to Northern WA so CA, OR, WA. I have a few places already lined up. ANd I'm going to be in Pendleton for the big race in July. Anyone ever been to the Grants Pass, OR fairgrounds?

The fairgrounds where they hold the Red bluff gelding sale (and the rodeo too I think) might be available for stalling, I’m not sure though.

After that I would also check for places in Redmond/Sisters/Bend. That area.

I've stayed at Redmond 2 different times on my way to Pendleton. Very Very nice fairgrounds! I dont' like my horses in a stall, wanted them in turnout after hauling long distance (for then anyway, LOL) I was able to put them in the holding pens behind the rodeo arena and park the trailer next to it. The second time they really didnt' want me doing that, they wanted us to stay at the RV park but we don't have a LQ trailer so it wasn't of any use to us to do that. I've heard the one in Madras is very nice also. Redmond pretty well helped break the trip into 2-6 hour days from where we are at. I also stayed at a place called Niegh-bors Horse Motel while in Pendleton, little apartment right above the barn and just up the hill from the Round Up grounds. Great little place!
I'm not sure about Red Bluff fairgrounds being very "stay friendly" but the Rolling Hills Casino Equestrian Center is just a half hour south of that, they may be and they have hook ups.

Ok I’m from so cal so I’m going to my ranch in Paso Robles first day, then on I5 to Grants pass second day. Staying at fairgrounds there. Very nice people to talk to. Then on up to Pendleton. Will be in Pendleton most of the week and running at the Pendleton green mile race. From there my destination in WA is only about four hours. They are an hour west of Spokane.

You would be going towards and up central Oregon to the little town of Biggs in the Columbia Gorge to access I80 to Pendleton.

Many are surprised to know Barrel Horse World has the most comprehensive list of arenas online. Complete with information on RV hookups internet etc. Go to home page under Events. Click where it says Find an arena.
