So I was looking into buying the SPH Coupe (3/4") for barrel racing. I was looking at 5 star pads but I don't have the money nore do I have the time to save up, perhaps latter. But for the moment, I was looking at SPH. What ya'll thoughts on them? Also, how much do they compress? Would I be better off getting a 1"? TIA!!

PS. I have a Corriente and it measures 24". Should I get a 28" or a 20" pad?

I love my SPH pad. I've had it for two years, and it's held up great. No problems at all with it. I also ride in a Corriente, and use a 30 inch, 3/4 inch. My mare has a scar on her back right where the saddle sits and the pad has never rubbed or irritated the area. I love how free her shoulders are and how much feel I have with my legs with this pad.
If your saddle fits well, you don't need a 1inch pad. I feel like a 3/4 inch is plenty.

I believe mine is the 7/8", and is the Corvette (30") model with the neoprene under the top color layer but above the wool that goes on the horse's back. If I remember correctly they used to call it their sandwich pad. I know it measures over an inch when just sitting there with no compression.

I have the 45 degree skirt corriente with a 14.5" seat, and the 30" pad works perfect. Don't think I'd want to go much smaller, but the 30" is big on my short back horses.

I think I myself could use an even thinner pad, the 7/8" just seems like a bit much. If you're saddle

IMO I don't get much leg cut out, my stirrups are pretty far forward on all my saddles. I do like the wither relief though. I have one horse that rides with a lot of leg and I notice a small difference in feel on her, but can't say it's enough for me to pay full price for a pad. I got mine very discounted used. If you can find one used, I'd go that route.

I just received  mine Saturday.  I will let you know after this week.  I got all wool 30inch.  I'm thinking I might should have went with a 7/8's though.
