Location: MN | Any clever, cheap(ish) ideas for covering round bales out in the pasture? Since the grass started coming in a few weeks ago my horses have ditched the round bale and now its getting gross. It's not the greatest of hay, so I'm not super mad about it, but none the less - its half a dang bale! My two horses are only on about 3 acres and as you can imagine, it doesnt last very long. They do munch on the hay but they arent standing around eating it 24/7 like the do in the winters.

| I don't know how all of you deal with those round bales! We don't have them in CA. I can't imagine with wet weather they wouldn't just turn into a moldy mess in less than a week. LOL I don't have any advice for covering. I wonder if you could store them under cover and only feed a little at a time? |

Location: North Dakota | if they no longer need the bale dispose of it. Even covering it with a tarp, moisture will get to the core and it'll get dusty. Unless you have a building you can put it in. |

Location: Under The Big Sky Of Texas | Its not worth even trying to save it for later, its just going to get nasty over time, I would roll it out run a shredder over it, thats what I do with my old roll bales when the horses start going for the green grass that starts to come up. |

Location: MN | I think I'll do just that. Try spreading it to encourage more grass to grow. At this point, I dont believe they are even touching it anymore. Sounds like my weekend just got busy and will be moving around wet, heavy hay |

Bales that are already out in the pasture aren't worth trying to save. |
