I have a huge horse fly problem at my house!! Anyone have success with mesh curtains for your lean to or barn?? That's my only other option at this point. I know those huge suckers will eat through a fly sheet. And ive tried multiple products with zero success. Theres no where to hide in her pen. My poor mare is MISERABLE!!!

I think if you can make her shed darker, the bugs won't go in there.

We have the same problem with bees at our place. One of our sheds gets more light than the others and we hung a big drop cloth in front of the door to keep the bugs out. (This is one of the big canvas kinds that you can get at Home Depot.) We only have it attached to the roof at the top.

Those big flies have been aweful here in East Texas.  Has anyone tried this trap thing that I saw on Facebook?

I agree that if you can keep the lean darker it will keep the bugs down. I just purchased some mesh screening to put on my barn door and made my own curtains with it. $60 to do 12 x 12 opening plus some zip ties a piece of electical pipe and some clamps. Walla done. It was more for birds then bugs and that baby gets flying on a windy day but there are no birds in my barn this year.

We found a solution!! Went down to harbor freight and bought some mesh tarps. Holy cow those livestock branded ones online are expensive! For about $45, she has a nice hiding spot from those huge suckers. If you look closely, you can see her blaze.
