Wow, polos are soft and pliable, total opposite of the rubbery boots. It was all I would use. Maybe you're leaving them on too long and he's overheating and getting itchy.

I wrapped him both times right before we ran so they weren’t on very long at all. No different than when I run him in sport boots. I’m swapping back to boots to see what happens. He has me scratching my head

Some horses are weird.
I’d say if you’re confident that you’re wrapping them correctly and that seems to be the common denominator for your poor runs...there ya go, you have a weird horse. Embrace him and use boots.

I have a mare that sits really hard. She will not run correctly if she has polos or nothing on her back legs. She burned herself really bad when she was young. Put boots on her and she sits and drags like she is supposed to.
