Location: Eastern OH but my heart is in WV | Just curious if anyone has had any luck using ear plugs with their horses? In all the years of owning them, l have never had a one as senstive as the mare my daughter is riding now. Super broke & seasoned but still hates indoors with loud music (she rodeos). She still performances but it is nothing like at outdoor or somewhere with less noise. Are they worth buying or just a waste of money? |

| I've never used them, but I have some bulldogger friends who have used tampons as ear plugs. Maybe a cheap alternative? |

Not a waste of money, I have seen more then a few roping horses wearing ear plugs, you see alot at the pro rodeos that are indoor. |

| Tampons work awesome. Watch how many horses at the NFR have strings coming out of their ears. I don’t see many barrel horses use them but I see lots of roping horses. |

| I've had good luck with the pomms brand. They look like little golf balls, but are really soft and squishy.

Location: Where the buffalo roam | I have a colt that is extremely noise sensitive. He is an idiot at races with out the earplugs even quiet little local jackpots. Once I put them in, it's like he is a new horse. I too use the Pomms. They are easy to put in and out and do not fall out. Once they are in, he shakes his head once and pays no attention to them. They were only like $10. I have never had one like this, but if this is what it takes to help him out, I have no problems with it. I just could not have the strings hanging out - just not my thing! |

| I had a mare that needed them. She was ok outside but inside if there was music.... good luck. Mine were EquiFit foam ones. They changed the design and relaunched them so I don't know how the preform now but when i used them they were great. |

Location: The South | You can get cat toys that are exactly like the Pomms except you get more pairs for the same $ as one pair of Pomms. I think I got mine at Petco or Petart. Same thing, just bright colors instead of black. |

Less than $20 I believe and are reuseable. Case they come in can be reused as well.
For sure worth the money. |

Location: Dubach, LA | Hubby is a mounted shooter. Ear plugs do help. Find a shooting friend and make your own. Those work better than anything you can buy. |

| Hey - I run mounted shooting.
Poms are good quality but can put too much pressure at the base of the ear if your horse has smaller ears overall and can cause more issues.
Tampons don't work nearly as well as those actually designed for horse ears.

made out of soft foam, an easy to use string to keep them together, easy to clean as well, and a tapered design make them easy to insert and remove without undue pressure in and on the ear.

Location: At the race track with Ah Dee Ohs | I would try just plain ol cotton. Alot of race track trainers use cotton....Zenyatta ran with cotton in her ears. |

Location: Eastern OH but my heart is in WV | Just wanted to come back on here and say "Thanks" for everyone's responses. My daughter tried the foam ball ones over the weekend at a very, loud indoor rodeo and they worked GREAT for the mare!!!!! Made a noticeable difference. Went from coming off the mare in this venue last year, from her spooking so bad, to placing in all three performances this year!
Never stop learning with horses....even something so simple as ear plugs!
