| What size saddle do you all ride in? I’m 5,4 110 pounds and have always rode in a 14. Recently had someone tell me I should be in a 13. Curious everyone’s saddle size and preference? |

| I'm 5'3, 115 lbs, pearish shape, and I prefer to ride in a 14" but it also depends on the brand or discipline! But barrel racing; 14" |

| 5’9 and 160lbs. I ride a 15” seat.
It’s personally preference BUT I think a lot of people who say they are getting tossed forward in the turns, are riding in too small of a seat. I rode 14’s and 14.5’s for a long time and would have this issue on occasion. When I bought my current saddle I made sure to try multiple sizes. The 15 felt best. |

Location: Bastrop, Texas | I think a lot of barrel racers ride in saddles that are too small.
In some cases, they look very uncomfortable. It seems their pelvis is too upright, and it looks like it would be hard to “roll back” on your pockets when you need to. They tend to get pitched forward too much, because they are trapped. The cantle becomes a launching pad, in effect. Getting wedged in the saddle isn’t a good substitute for a good seat.

Location: The best kept secret in TX | A rule of thumb we use when fitting is:
sitting relaxed in a saddle do the following test:
Put two fingers together right in front of your thigh...
Does it touch the fork of the saddle snuggly? It fits you properly.
Is there a gap? Too large.
Can't fit two fingers between your leg and the fork? Too small.

Location: Somewhere around here | I'm 5'3", 135ish lbs, and pretty fit from lifting heavy weights. I wear 5-9 size jeans, depending on the brand, and I ride in a treeless saddle with a 15inch seat. I used to ride in a 15inch treed saddle but I think if I did that now I'd be everywhere in it in a run. I might be able to fit in a 14.5 inch treeless saddle but I'm pretty comfortable with what I have now. I recently rode in my friends 14 inch seated treed saddle and it surprisingly fit me, but it also had a low pommel and cantle. I think that plays a role in it as well

| I am the same size as you....I have everything from a 13" saddle to a 14.5" saddle (Different makers/trees). For me, it really depends on how the horse runs and turns....and that helps me determine which saddle I want to throw on and ride in. |

| A smaller seat will give you more stability and confidence if you're on a powerful horse. Its been said that in team roping, the higher your number, the smaller your seat size. If your seat is too big, it'll take you too long to get into position. |

| Agree with the others in that it really is personal preference and what you are doing. On a hard running horse sometimes smaller feels a bit more secure but at slower speeds or on younger horses a little room is nice. |

Location: Arizona | I have ridden in a 14.5" to a 13.5"...I am 5'6.5" tall and weigh about 125lbs...but my horses have different running styles. My one mare is really ratey and on her front end I ride in my Pozzi 13.5" saddle. My other mare I had was a huge mare and kinda did a rollback style of turn, I ran her in my Cactus 14.5" saddle....
I guess it just depends on what you are needing. |
