I was thinking the same thing, but here are some on here out of decent mares that are being sold for 10-15k. |

That's still not bad in relation to his stud fee. I find that if they are not roan they bring 30 to 40 percent less as two year old's. However color does not seam to effect the price as much on older more finished horses. Another stud that has shown a good but risky investment is DTF. The cost to get a mare in foal is High but the sale value could be maga bucks. |

Location: Illinois | This isn't quite an answer related to the original question but one I've noticed a large return on in my area has been A Streak of Fame in weanlings. I believe the stud fee was $1250 and every single weanling I've seen listed this year has been at least $7,500. I haven't seen any that are older than that, but seems pretty good to me. However I can't see them selling for a whole lot more as 2 year olds, so maybe they have the highest return as weanlings, who knows. I've seen a few A Sharp Frenchman colts sell for high money, and that's a relatively low stud fee. Haven't seen any lately, all the ones I know are weanlings this year or 2 year olds not for sale right now. I think the Dinero babies are going to see a price increase steadily in the near future. BHR Frenchies Socks are also still a super hot commodity and sell like hotcakes no matter how they're priced. A girl I used to run with sold 2 of her 2 year old geldings by him a few years ago with 30 days on them for $20,000 each. They seem a little lower priced now, but still doing well |

I have been there twice. It should be a good sale average. They do an excellent job at prepping the colts. Selling most them as started 2yr old is a smart move if you can hold them back that long. |

Location: Where I am happiest | Of course the two mega sires DTF and FG themselves will always bring a great return. Then you have First Moon Flash but of course this 3 are a sizeable upfront investment. Next Shawnee Bug Leo comes to mind. For a horse that has no foals on the ground yet so no traceable return yet either BUT has everything going for him in pedigree, looks, mind, color, and the right connections to make him a mega sire is Meyers colt Lucky Wonder Horse.

I find myself, when looking at prospects, to want them to be the same color as the parent I like the most. Many of the standout ASOFs are roan. Angela Festervan brought this subject up on Facebook a while back. All of the foals out of a mare she liked that were a certain color were awesome. The ones that came out another color weren't as good. Obviously this is not always true for every cross and you cant take it to the bank, just an observation that has proven interesting. |
