My new horse had some ugly scar tissue when I bought him about a week ago. It came off this morning and looks much cleaner. What do you recommend I treat it with to help the healing process and prevent ugly scar tissue? Side note there is no lameness, swelling, or heat.

Peecans
Is it still an open wound? Or is It just a build up of old over grown scar tissue? For the second I use udder butter (for dairy cows) to keep it soft and supple with great success. Daily until the build up comes off, then as needed to keep the scar tissue skin soft and prevent cracking.
The first I would have to see it to decide what to use.

Scarring is from letting the wound dry out. Use Udder Butter or Corona salve or anything that they use for dairy cows udders. Most have lanolin in them and never let the skin get dry. You cn use this on yourself also. You can heal up some big wounds this way and the hair will grow back together with hardly a mark. REMEMBER the secret is to never let the skin get dry and hard. This is what these dairy products are designed to do for the cows teats.
