I have a martin crown C that I have been using for a couple years on my now 4 year old mare. It is an 8" gullet, a little wide but I like that I can fill in with shims with my corrector pad. I recently ordered a new martin stingray and they accidentally sent me a 7" gullet. While this currently fits my mare I am worried it won't in the future when she fills out and especially with my thicker corrector pad. What are people's opinions/experiences on this?

My question would be do you really think her back will widen an inch? If so, send it back and pad it. A lot of people will say to use the saddle that fits the horse, but I am not in a position to be able to change saddles throughout a horses growing stages. Too wide is always easier to manage than too narrow.

They made the mistake of sending you the wrong size gullet saddle, if you ordered a 8 inch then send the saddle back and get what you want.  Or if you dont want to send the saddle back go with a thinner pad in the future.

If they made a mistake make them fix it.

Yes, I am also not in a position to change saddles throughout a horses stages of life, which is why I ordered the wider 8" to begin with. My mare isn't going to be huge by any means, she is only 14.3 now and the 7" does fit her but I would rather have a little wider than take the chance of her out growing the 7"...I guess I already know that I probably SHOULD send the saddle back and get what I ordered. It is just hard, I am so bummed. I waited 14 weeks to get this to only get the wrong saddle!!

Also just so everyone knows, the mistake was not on Martin's end. It was from the dealer I ordered it through.

I had the same thing happen on a Crown C, but I did not notice it was wrong at first. Dealer tried to blame it on Martin, Martin said that was what she ordered. What it boiled down to, SHE didn't believe a horse needed anything bigger than a 7" & that is what SHE ordered. Really made me mad, but they made it right in the end.
