Yes way... the ANHA shootout for as long as I have gone there, has been on a WPRA standard pattern.

They verified the pattern before everything started.

It's true, it happened, it was badass, congratulations to some fine horses and amazing jockeys!

The WPRA Texas circuit director announced today that the pattern was slightly shorter than the standard WPRA pattern. The stakes were set at the measurements for a standard pattern but in the WPRA rulebook, the barrels are to be set on top of the stakes. At this race, the barrels were set just inside the stakes. Again we are talking maybe 6 ft difference overall which would be a small blip on the timer but the runs were phenomenal.

I was told they adjusted their pattern so that the barrels were the correct distance, but accounted for it where they put the stakes. But when the director was asked if that still counted she said no it did not

What Casualdust said.   The pattern was adjusted to be the same distance with the stakes on the inside of the barrels but WPRA does not recognize it because per the rules barrels are to be on top of the stakes with no adjustments.   A technicality if it is recognized or not but the horses ran the same size pattern.

Alright, im gonna get flamed but Im ready for it.

I was there when B Pozzi broke the record and that horse was nasty and gritty from alleyway to alleyway and I just didnt see anything like that in the 2 videos I seen from the weekend. I told my daughter they didnt look like .4 runs and she went on to say the girls there at the ANHA were all saying the times were almost a full D (.4?) faster than they were supposed to be.

So yeah, I wont believe a record from Brazil or one on sketchy measurements.

Props to those horses and girls though, the spanked HUNDREDS of others to get those times and there is no questioning that.

The ground was way faster the last day. First day they never did a big drag. Second day they did a few big drags and it was a little better. Also the 1D horses got a drag every 3 horses instead of 5. Wish they had set it up right. Those were some awful nice runs.

You know horses can be deceiving.   The palomino ran a 16.9 first go with room for improvement. The 16.6 from London Gorham in the 2nd go didn’t look fast either but that horse was covering some ground.

Sounds like some awesome runs . So what is the WPRA saying about the pattern at the NFR ,who has the record and on which pattern? I will say I doubted the times at Waco, I know Brit's run in Loveland was totaly wicked. I saw it in person. But it was not a 4, so if they did talk about Smoken.

They were smoking runs. One of the horses that ran a 16.4 is winning big race after big race and running phenomenal times. I realize videos can be deceiving and look like they are going slower but that palomino is a big stout horse and can absolutely FLY.

Exactly! Remember all the doubters when Haley broke the NFR record time last year. I feel like it’s not just the speed but also how hard both of those horses leave the barrel. And both horses have been clocking recently. The ground was way faster the last day. The difference in times from the 1st day was 4 to 5 tenths for some but go back and watch some of the videos from the 1st day and you will see how much harder the ground was. They would run in and try to rate the 1st barrel and pop up out of the ground. Wasn’t pretty at all that day and there were no big ripping drags. I think too if you are sitting back there knowing London ran a .6 the 2nd day you know you are going to have to go all out.

Those of us that run against these girls on a regular basis know how tough they are. Congrats to both of them! I'd just like to say I ran against Patton several times the last two months this summer. She has it figured out and is bringing it all no matter what. Her palomino horse is the perfect example of a horse that will clock. This horse never raises up after circling a barrel. The constant forward motion this horse maintains and Patton's excellent horsemanship are throwing unheard of times on the clock in numerous arenas. I'm betting we'll see another arena record this weekend at Parker County Arena??

When is the next race on a standard? I would really like to see what they clock.

And I personally dont see any 16.4-16.7 looking "deceiving" on a standard. In my opinion, thats a run you know is fast no matter what.

Nope, just like when you see horses and riders with lots of hustle, pretty turns and think it’s going to be faster than they actually clock.

Show me some sub 16.8 on a real, verified standard that look deceiving. Ive seen PLENTY of fast runs that look smooth and deceiving, but how fast were they really?

Londons was about as "deceiving" as one could look (opinion) and it didnt look all that deceiving at all. They turned a barrel lightning fast and maintained the speed and Im not even sure the pattern on that run.

Its really simple though, run on a real verified standard and stop that clock for all of us to see. Just so you all know, im not a hater at all, I want to see that record broke as many times as possible. The way I look at it a standard pattern is a true unbiased measurement that can be duplicated anywhere in the world and people will know how fast that team actually was, not just based on some perceived notion of location, number of riders or because "I run against these girls".

To me a horses stride is what can make a run look deceiving, I have seem many long strided horses made a run and it will look slower then a short strided one, you would think dang that short strided one really made a nice run, man it was fast untill you hear the times and your like wow that long strided one really covered some ground but it didnt like as fast as the short strided horse.

Yep the short strided ones can be really snappy coming around a barrel but those long strided ones can really cover ground in between the barrels. Those long strided ones are fun to watch, l love how alot of them will get low and stretch out coming home.
The horse in you're avatar looks like its got a really long stride.

Exactly how the other rune were too, in and out, no loss of momentum and it was the same measurements, it was announced many times during the race.   WPRA  does not recognize it because the barrels were not on top of the stakes, you can not have any adjustments even if the adjustments make the pattern the  same which is fair, no one is saying it should be recognized by WPRA but that does not mean it was a smaller pattern.

Why were the barrels not set were they were suppose to be, was it just a honest mistake made by the barrels sitters? I would think the barrels if they were sitting on the stakes they would have been really close to the wall and fence on the 1st and 2nd. Oh well maybe not that close..

Honestly, it makes me question everything now. People on this thread were swearing this was a standard, then it wasnt, and now?? This place deosnt have lasers?

Ill wait to see actual times on a proper standard.

I want to be clear, those runs were FAST no matter what and those teams kicked butt.

No mistake or “suppose to be”. This was an open race that was WPRA approved. They timed down to the thousand as opposed to the hundredth as in an official WPRA race and the set the barrels like an open race and measured to equal a standard. It’s fair for it to not be officially recognized but the pattern size was the same, I guess JM  considers the producers and staff liars. They never said it was set per WPRA rules, just said it measured the same standard pattern size.

luckyjo - 2018-09-06 10:17 AM Those of us that run against these girls on a regular basis know how tough they are.

How much?

Well smartie, you'd have lost!! She did it! Just ran the new arena record at Parker County! 15.338

joemama - 2018-09-06 12:31 PM Show me some sub 16.8 on a real, verified standard that look deceiving.

Im not saying theyre liars, but something is not right.

Why have a "standard" thats not standard? Why not set it up properly and get all the attention of a world record for the rider, horse AND the producer that groomed the ground and put on the event?

Three things come to mind...

1-

Never mind, people are already offended.

Back when Hotshot was winning everywhere he stepped off the trailer, I couldn't believe he was that fast. He just did not look like it. I finally was sitting on the bottom row close to the timer and saw up close how freaking F-A-S-T he was running to the first barrel. Holy cow then it was much more believable to me. I have seen Patton's horse run several times in person. Videos can be deceiving but in person that is a smoking fast horse that is also big and stout. She is just getting warmed up. I expect we will all see her in the winners circle many more times. As for as the record times on a standard, I don't get too excited over that because the ground can be deep and slow in one arena and groomed to be fast in another.

Smoking!! Being snoopy here can anyone give me a background on the horse? Pedigree? Age? Etc? Also the rider? She’s amazing on that horse! I’m sure we’ll be seeing more from them in the future!

Yep, that describes both the ANHA runs and seeing them live you can see the speed, no loss of momentum, run all the way into the turn than have the ability to drop and wrap the barrel.   They don’t lose any time preparing for the turn or getting out of it. Patton Ann and Jennifer are a heck of a hand to say the least.  Jennifer rode 8 horses and all made the 1D and 2D shoot out, she had 5 horses with in 8 runs of each other in the shootout and was able to ride each one with focus and have great runs.   The format of the shootout, each D just running against itself and slowest to fastest order makes for an exciting race and brings out the best plus the ground was the best on the last day- there were several sub 17 runs that day.
