| What type of saddle/saddle brand do you use on your horses? I have a mare that is very wide backed. She isn’t completely mutton withered but I do have a hard time with dry spots right behind the withers. Looking for a barrel/all around saddle. |

There’s a bunch of us around Iowa running in Burns now on all different types of horses. Most I would guess in a 20 tree, but they do have a wider version and an x-wide special order. If you can get in touch with Wendy J Winn on Facebook, she’s fantastic. Designed the tree and if you’re not in an area she frequents for fittings I bet she knows someone who is.
They’re pricey, but a true handmade saddle and ride so so nice. |

Location: Southeastern Idaho | This isn't an answer about a saddle but the pad I am using on my mutton withered horses. I am using the Corrector pad and went from lots of dry spots and sore backs to entirely wet backs and no more soreness. No matter the saddle I use. Barrel saddles, rope saddles, or cowhorse saddle. I also do not have to cinch as tight (which they appreciate). Just a thought. You have to order it from this goofy website and its expensive. I followed the directions that come with it and shimmed (shims come with it) it for a mutton withered horse and haven't looked back.

My dad had one of these pads (its 5 years old now) and told me to try it this spring after I shared with him my issues with 2 of my horses. HOLY COW! The difference! I had to roam around forever before I found the link to the store to actually order the stupid thing. But it works, and my 2 muttons have never been happier. From roping, running or long days rounding up I am sold on this pad. |

Location: in the ozone | 2 that I know fit a wide, flat backed horse are the Martin Crown C (get it in the correct width), and the Lisa Lockhart Flex 2. |

| I have had this issue. I have had the best luck so far with a cactus (Marlene McRae) and another friend of mine has the CJ for this type of horse (also by cactus). I am on a budget also ... I tried the Lisa Lockhart (Circle Y) and it was SO wide. Too wide for mine but might be good for you.
The one thing I learned a lot about was the bar angle... I didn't necessarily need a super wide gullet, I am shimming in the shoulders but the bars fit my mare well.

| Ugh so many different answers, definitely terrified to order something and it not fit...again. I am also on a budget, I know quality saddles cost $ but with being in college, I just can't afford anything over $2,000 at the moment. |

Ugh so many different answers, definitely terrified to order something and it not fit...again. I am also on a budget, I know quality saddles cost $ but with being in college, I just can't afford anything over $2,000 at the moment.
Best advice is try as many from friends as you can. I also experimented with a lot of saddle pads too. Some of them made a huge difference. |

Location: Got Lobsta? | I had a Stingray on her but it was tight in the shoulders. I had it in the store and decided to place it on her back. Its called "pliable bars" aka flex but it is not as light as her older version. Its NOTHING like the Circle Y version. I sit deep in the seat, the pommel is wider in the front. She has big shoulders and not much of a wither. I use a Zone pad on her and its worked great. I wish I had a smaller seat size, but other than that I'd order another one. Great quality! |

Location: South Dakota | I agree with the Charmayne Cactus saddle or a Burns. I was previously using the Cactus but special ordered a #40 tree from Burns. I have not gotten it yet but I am riding in one of theirs in the meantime and really like it. |
