We are looking at getting a free flow walker, and I'm hoping to get some opinions.

My top choices are: gear driven, belt driven, or chain driven.

I don't have any experience with walkers/motors etc so I would greatly appreciate any input.

Bob Hamilton from Georgia sells a real nice free walker that seems to be the best value. (Find him on fb).
I have a Trojan that has been good, heavy duty, but has transmission Problems. Redoing the transmission will be a major project if I can find someone to do it :-(

My husband spoke to Bob and that one is at the top of the list so far. They will help with installation so that is a big plus. And it runs off of 110 where the others on my list need 220.

That stinks about your transmission, I'm sorry. I hope you find someone that can fix it without costing a fortune.
Are the Trojans belt driven? Have you had any problems besides the transmission?

Yes this is going to be an investment for sure. I've been saving for a while thinking that I need a newer car in the future, but I'd rather have a walker lol. My car is a 2004 Honda so hopefully it will last a long time

Hmmmm....I could sell my car, which eliminates my transporting work....and then I’d have the time to ride, and can use the walker to warm up and cool down my horses....

I hope my husband sees my point of view!!

In response to your original question, I found this on the Euroxciser website. I like theirs because they offer financing!

“In-line drive trains without belts or chains. We get requests to replace other manufacture’s bases to our set-up to eliminate reliability problems associated with belt drive and chain drive systems. Stick with motor/geared systems”

That one has been my favorite from the start! Priefert's is gear driven so I figured that must be the best since they are top of the line. And the euroxciser has a nice warranty. They an 'economy' model that is the same diameter and holds the same # of horses as the Freestyle. But it needs 220v and installation help costs extra.

Decisions, decisions. I need help.
Husband is leaning towards Freestyle bc it would be easiest, all one package (panels included), only needs 110v, and they help install. But I'm on the fence bc I don't know how belt driven holds up over time and we live in hot/humid conditions several months of the year. I don't know anyone that has a walker to ask them their opinion. I'm hoping people on here will have advice.

Wow! I didn’t know that, thank you. Do you have any opinions on gear driven vs chain driven or belt driven?

I wouldn’t have anything but a free style walker. They’re much safer than regular walker. Horses can buck and play with out a chance of flipping or falling and hurting their neck. You don’t have to worry about some horse standing there stopping the whole thing either. I wouldn’t want anything but a 6 horse either due to the diameter. I want the 60’ circle instead of a 30/40’ for a 4 horse.

Oh yes we are set on the free flow type walker. The two I can’t decide between are the Freestyle brand that Bob from Georgia sells or one from California called Euroxciser.
One is belt driven and needs a 110v line, and the other is gear driven and needs a 220v. I just don’t know anything about them to help make the decision. I’m stuck!

Priefert makes a nice one. I like that you can hook up a drag and have fresh dragged ground on the track every day!

Yes Priefert would be my top choice if I didn’t have a budget. They are pricey! I about choked on the phone when the salesman gave me the prices lol.

Interesting that this popped up, my husband and I were just talking about it the other day. I couldn’t ever decide on what to get so I put it on the back burner and continued to save $ for it. I think he’s leaning toward a Priefert because they’re proven. He said “buy once, cry once” LOL. I’m going to call and get current prices this week, I’ll post what I find out.

I have a 6 horse Priefert and yes it was more expensive than most other brands. In this case I feel you get what you pay for. I have not regretted spending the extra money on the Priefert. Their warranty is great and they service what they sell. We have them change the oil twice per year and the walker is virtually trouble free. I bought the drag and it is well worth it.

I completely understand.........If you get a chance, take a look at our ProWalk Horse Walkers.  If you wanted to get a leadshank walker, four horse, ours is $6895.

When it comes to walkers, people tend to look at three areas the most. Cost, quality, and reliability.

Rarely will you ever find something that is the least expensive, made of the best quality, and the most reliable ever.

We aren't the least expensive, but we are very competetive. However, in regards to quality and reliability, no other walker in the world compares. My father started this company in 1983, he has sold over 85,000 walkers. Most every walker is still in use at this time. This is why we keep parts in inventory for every walker that we have made since 1984. Just some food for thought, I do wish all of you the best, but please always feel comfortable asking me any questions....even if it isn't about our walker and its another manufacturer. Have a blessed day and thank you. -Kim

DRowe did you get moved?

We went with an MK walker and have been very pleased so far. We installed it ourselves and it went very well. We used our existing round pen for the fencing. My husband was impressed with the quality. Their customer service was great with all of my questions.

We did move!!!! Right now we're having an arena graded with two 60' round pens at one end. One will stay a regular round pen, one will be a free walker. We just haven't done a ton of research yet. My husband likes the Free Style because he's seen it in person, but I'm not set on any particular kind yet!

How exciting!! Freestyle was on my list but they quit emailing me back when I asked about a warranty so that made me nervous.

It is a big decision, let me know if I can help!
