Location: WA | What saddles have you had success with on flat backed horses? The dip behind their shoulder that a lot of horses has, he does not. It's hard to fit him. Of course I will try them on him, etc before purchasing but would like to narrow the field down a bit. Thanks! |

I tried a CJ by Cactus. Was too wide. It sat on his shoulders and left huge dry marks. I have an Ammerman Angel Kisses on him but I can't ride in it for crap . I am going to try to get the seat replaced with new rough out (it is worn to basically a slick seat, there is nothing left to rough back up). Also tried a Crown C Martin on him and too wide. My Billy Cook sored him up. I know each maker has different trees, etc.
He isn't mutton withered, he has obvious withers. But where a lot of other horses have a dip behind their shoulder (next to their withers I guess), he is flat. There is no indent. |

Sounds like you need a saddle with very little rock or no rock at all. Do you have any pictures of your horse? What was the gullet size in the Crown C? |

It was an 8" gullet, axis tree. |

Oh thats pretty wide, I would try a standard crown c and see how that works, for some reason I was thinking wide when I first read your thread. But I would try the standard first.. try calling Felicia Carlton in Tn, she has a ad on the saddles for sale page shes got a saddle store and I have heard really good things about her and shes really good at fitting saddles I hear also. Shes got a lot of saddles and she may beable to help you out. |

I was wondering about those. I have a mare with NO withers but it pretty wide for her size. My FX3 just isn't fitting her like I want it to. |

Where did you get the pad from? |

Team Equine Brand and I worked through The Right Fit Saddle Fitting to customize it. |

I have a flat backed horse. I had the Stingray on her and it didn't seem to fit in the shoulders, just a bit too tight. I switched to the Fearless and it fit her so much better! It's nothing like the Lockhart Circle Y version. |
