What is your go to product/routine to keep a horse's hooves dry in the wet and muddy conditions?
My boy is out to pasture unless he is being fed. I pick his hooves once daily but they have started smelling... We have a very soft pasture but there are areas for him to get out of the mud. His stall is dry but he worries himself into ulcers if he is locked up. I'm worried about fungus. Any advice? Thank you.
Our horses are in mud/snow/etc all winter long. We dont have any indoor stalls to keep their feet dry. Once a week I will put coppertox or jim rickens (just depends what I have available at the time) on all their feet. Our horses do great on that routine.

Thank you so much for your reply. We aren't used to rain for weeks out here in North Texas so I'm a bit worried about his hooves. I'll look for both of these next time I go to town.

Interesting... I had never heard of the shield powder. Do you put it on daily, weekly?? Love the idea of this!

Depends on how often they go out in the wet. If they are out in the wet a lot, then I put it on every day before they go out. I put the Mud Shield Powder on their pasterns before mine go out in the wet/dew grass. All three of mine have white on their noses so I put the powder on their noses too or they will get scratches there too. It is like you sitting in a bathtub for a long time, your skin gets wrinkled and soft. If the skin gets soft enough from moisture it will get weak and allow bacteria in. Keep it dry with powder.
