My friend is starting to look for a stallion to breed her mare to next spring. She is looking for one with Orphan Drift or some type of Driftwood. Anyone know of some around? We're in central MN but she is willing to travel or get semen shipped.

Thank you in advance.

I dont know if he's willing but Mighty Broke has 2 of the nicest and highest percentage driftwood horses I know of, AND they are both producers.

Sterling Equine Ventures in Sterling City Tx has a really nice older Driftwood stallion for sale. We owned him for many years and he is a sweetheart. MP Wa****a Drifter, by Lone Drifter, by Driftwood Ike, by Driftwood. He was bred by Mel Potter and wears their brand.  Edited to add: I hope that doesnt break any rules to say he is for sale. I have absolutely no connection to him anymore, just heard they were selling him and i love the horse and hope he finds a good home.

Mighty Broke for sure. His program is getting some amazing results in the barrel pen. You can't go wrong with either stallion.

Sunshine Quarter horses in Montana. Tiki Wood goes back to Driftwood Ike. I love mine! http://www.sunshinehorse.com
Jamisons have some very nice Driftwood stallions as well. One of mine I ride now is by Tiki Wood and out of a Jamison bred Driftwood mare. http://jamisonranch.com/stallions.html

Mel Potter-Potter Ranch stands a few Driftwood studs..I think MP Thriftwood & Alone Drifter are the ones that come to mind.

I have a mare out of a lone drifter daughter by a sunfrost stud (basically Alone Drifter backwards) and she is the quietest mare I have ever been around. She is probably 15.1/2 and naturally very athletic.

The cross you are speaking of is what we have built our whole program around, We have PC Lonewood Special, a Lone Drifter son and PC Frosty Jay Jay, a Sun Frost son and we have now gotten to the point where we are crossing daughters of each stud back on the other. Loving the results.

My opinion for what its worth - Sun Frost X Lone Drifter is the best. Smart, quiet, athletic, user friendly, & willing. For Driftwood bloodlines...it's by far my favorite.

I love my mare. I heard all the rumors about them being spooky and buckers... literally was asked more than once after saying how she was bred "is she a bronc?" and I'm like uhhhh... no. This mare never bucked once (I broke her out) and she is the calmest and quietest horse on my farm.

Agreed. Just spoke with a breeder the other day that said he thought Driftwoods were spooky and broncy. I totally disagreed...I have 3 of them and they are the best horses on our place. My biggest issue with them is they need/want a job so keeping them busy especially when they are young is critical. But they are so good minded and willing. Our Dual Peps and Highbrow Cat's are nice horses but hot enough that I find myself catching up the SunFrost/Driftwood mares first. I am really thinking of crossing our Highbrow bred mare on Saywer's Game Changer....he really interests me.

I agree, my mare is so smart. She gets bored easily and annoyed with you if you pick.... If I ever bred her, I have my eyes on a DTF. Lions Share of Fame has always been a favorite of mine.

We actually crossed Lions Share of Fame on our daughter of Dual Pep. LSOF surely helped with the hot issue. This gelding has a HUGE motor and ability but is a total sweetheart. Can't complain about the mind that LSOF puts on a colt.

I am praying he is still breeding when the time comes. I got to see him run a bit I believe it was his Derby year. Seems so quiet and loved his style. Plus he is a LOOKER!!!!

We have a Driftwood Stallion.  Drifts Joe Leo by Drift Chip and out of Neel Seven by Fairfax Joe Two.  He is 25% Driftwood and goes back to Leo 3 times.

I bred my mare to a lone drifter son, this stud has one of the best minds I've ever seen.....love at first sight! MP Sage Wood, I'm seriously considering buying a yearling daughter the stallion owner has for sale.
