So we sent off our 3yr old horse to the trainer, he was only there for 2 weeks because of all the rain, our trainer asked us to come get him until it dries up. Anyway, I have an old retired gelding who has ringbone and my good horse here, we brought our 3yr old home and turned them all out in the pasture, like we always have... these horses have been together for about 3 years, always turned out together and all stalled next to each other in the barn, never an issue, well our old man took off after the young horse and attacked him... he chases him all over the pasture and wouldn't let up.. I stalled the old guy up and my horse and the youngster get along just fine like they always had. I'm not sure why the old guy suddenly hates our 3 yr old.. he literally will run him all day if I let him, we have a pretty decent sized turnout and in reality he probably wouldn't be able to catch him again unless he cornered him and run him thru the fence. We have pretty high hopes for this 3 yr old and do not want him getting injured from the old horse. I stalled him up.last night with my horse and turned the old man out, he stood in front of the 3yr olds stall all night pawing the gate and ears pinned, he darn near ripped the gate off to get to him. I had to go put him up. I'm so confused why hes suddenly doing this to this horse! I'm trying to find him a good home, I've got one family interested in him for their grandkids to pony around on, but I'm not feeling so confident anymore that hes as gentle as I told them he was because I've never seen this behavior from him before! I hate having to do separate turnout times because of him. I'll have to put up more fencing around the barn to keep him away from the stall fronts I guess.
That they are! But I dont want the old fart to aggravate his ringbone and start limping horribly again... he just recently started moving sound again without daily meds. Hes just awful towards him, ears pinned teeth bared chasing him, even if the horse is no where near them grazing ..
