My sons mini pony developed a case of diarrhea about 4 days ago. I thought I’d give it a day or so to see if it’d clear up but she’s still runny this morning. Not like water, but looser than it should be. Her tail is covered in it. She is in a dry lot and gets grass hay. We raise our own hay so it’s the same as she’s been getting for the past 5 years. There are 2 other ponies with her, and all my other horses get the same hay and no one else is having problems. I took away their free choice mineral thinking maybe she was eating too much but there’s no difference so I put it back out this morning. Any idea on what might be causing it? She is almost always on hay to keep her at a decent weight so it’s not like a big change for her digestive system. I’ll pick up some probiotics to give her, but not sure what else to do.. Nothing has changed, other than my son has been riding her more. She is alert and eating well, doesn’t seem depressed or troubled.

Not a bad idea to check with your vet if it goes on awhile.. I've had good luck with biosponge for horses with diarrhea. Not saying your pony has them but worms can also cause loose manure, I've had some very healthy looking horses come in from farms with a regular deworming program (some I know for sure deworm, others claimed to but I don't 100% know how often or with what) but fecal counts showed they either weren't targeting the right type of worm, or the horse had accumulated a resistance to certain dewormers and we had to change the approach to get rid of them so a fecal may give you some answers possibly if it keeps up.
