My perspective as a commodity buyer, not a farmer.
It’s not ideal as China is such a huge trading partner. But, I try and temper expectations in the soybean market if there is a resolution. Since 12/13 when soybean carryout was sub 100million bushels we’ve planted an additional 10M acres a year on average and had good crops to the tune of a 49bushels per acre on average vs 41bpa prior in 2002 through 2012. Prior to the damage that the weather has done the past few weeks to the soybean carryout was for next summer was projected over 850 million bushels - without major changes to projected exports over the past few years.
My point is - the situation with China sucks, but we’ve also massively oversupplied the soybean market and that cannot be overlooked.

i read label on frozen and fresh buy usa only if at all possible

It isn’t an ideal situation. That being said, in the pecan industry, we now have American shellers trying to use it against us. Talk about screwing your own.

I manage a grain elevator in north central Iowa. The tariffs really are not the reason that commodity prices are low. Its more that we just have too much off it. The tariffs have affected the basis more than the futures. We have been showing S America and the rest of the world how to raise commodities like us so the whole world is just getting too much of everything. Someday mother nature will cure it.
