Location: Montana | My grey horse is doing awesome, but his nerves run a little wild at a barrel race. He just gets antsy and anxious. Looking for some good ideas on what to help. He loses focus when he gets this way and I've been very careful to give him time, not push him too hard, too fast, but he still gets anxious. What are your favorite supplements or pastes to help with that? |

Location: North Dakota | Are you addressing his gut health? My husband's heel horse acted very similar back in the day before we started addressing gut health. The last couple years we started giving him Ulcergard the morning of the roping, before we headed out, and he started performing like a champ. |

I have been trying to do things to prevent ulcers (keeping feed in front of him, etc.), he just gets really nervous/anxious/hot before a run. When he focuses, we have an amazing run. |

Location: Montana | I've looked into a few of these (In the Zone, Forefront, THE) but realized I missed a few! Gah, so many good brands, so little time. I'm trying In the Zone this weekend as my friend is a dealer and has some on hand and so I'll see how it does.
For those asking...I am trying to make sure his gut stays healthy, too, so we don't have that to deal with as well as I know that is common in horses with anxiety. Trying to find a good, gut health supplement...almost everything here has to be shipped in.

Look to the fields for your gut health supplement; alfalfa can work wonders for gut health in my opinion.
Also, a calming supplement that worked pretty good for us in the past was Vitacalm. We purchased it locally at a feed store, but I know they sell it online too. |

I feed grass/alfalfa hay and have some straight alfalfa so hopefully that will help! I also got some Purina feed with some gut support in it too.
Thanks for all the ideas, it gets pretty confusing and overwhelming, so many different products! |

My gelding who use to get more on the muscle and sometimes spook if the color of the barrels changed did very well on Animal Element - In the Zone paste.
I currently am starting to haul on off the track 4yr old filly who gets very nervous and wants to crawl out of her own skin at times, then has a complete melt down when you put her in the trailer to head home. In the Zone paste didnt help her, but I recently gave her Zylkene, world of difference! Could stand and relax, warm up with everyone, and never made a single peep in the trailer on the way home, even with me stopping for gas.

Sounds like this paste will work very well for me then!!! He is very on the muscle and spooks if the color of the barrels are different from before. Can't wait to try it this weekend. :) |
