I'm thinking of getting something less bulky and heavy to run in next year. Any suggestions. My current ride is a Molly Powell x-treme love it but its just kinda big. My gelding has a shorter back so I want to be sure saddle is well out of the way of hips.
I received my custom strip down barrel saddle from Corriente last week after selling my Triple Creek and I am in LOVE. I prefer the leather and tooling on my Triple Creek, but prefer the tree and way the the Corriente rides. Both brands have great strip down options though. I have also been super pleased with the in-skirt jockeys on the Corriente. I believe Jeff Smith and Pozzi have pretty low profile options as well. I have pasture full of cowbred shorties, so I've been searching for short skirted saddles for a while.
Be careful you don’t go too short. I too ride short backed cow horses, but ride a full length barrel saddle (27ish inches). The extra leather serves a purpose and helps distribute weight around the edges of the tree. Had a pretty extensive conversation about it when I went from my C3 to a Burns about how the fit on the c3 wasn’t terrible, but the super cut down skirting was causing pressure around the edges of the tree. Wendy said she actually sees it quite a lot in saddles that aren’t a terrible fit, the lack of skirting, especially in front of the tree, just causes excess pressure. I realize I was having the conversation with the person I was buying the saddle from - but Wendy knows her stuff.

I have a JJ Speedster that I really like! I was looking for the #10 tree in my size AND on a budget and this saddle happened to fit all 3 requirements lol
I use Saddleright pads and the round ones fit under this saddle perfectly.
