Like many others I absolutely HATE the time change. It’s dark by the time I get home from work now. Does anyone have somewhat cost friendly ideas for outdoor arena lights? I can have the local electric company come out in light poles but they’re $250 per pole and a monthly fee of $30 a pole so I’m trying to see if there’s another option. What do you all do to ride during the winter when it’s dark outside?

I have a dusk to dawn light at the end of my arena and one at the end of my barn (close by) and I pray for moonlight. LOL Actually the lights cover the arena well enough to ride and see barrels (white). I figure if I can work in the half light they can really hunt a barrel in the daylight. :-)

My arena is right next to the side of my house. We found some inexpensive lights that are easily attached to my house that shine right onto the pen.. they are super bright and 2 get the job done. I think they were about $30 a piece and the replacement bulbs are around $7 for led. Thankfully my hubby is electrical "smart" and hooked them into the switch on the porch.

I just rode in the dark for years, used black barrels. Really got my horse waiting on me to know when it was ok to turn lol. We didn't have lights at the last place I boarded so I bought some work lights. The construction kind on the tripod, they're fairly inexpensive. Had a 120x200 arena and I just put 2 up, was enough to see. Just ran extension cords to them & set them inside when done.

This ^^. Go to Home Depot and get some lights on stands. Attach them to the top of your barn for a temporary fix.
First thing that came to mind were those lightbars that you are seeing on vehicles now days. They are fairly inexpensive and if you have somewhere to mount them, they'd be perfect! https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_2?url=search-alias%3Dtools&field-keywords=LIGHTBARS

Because I don't have any electric close enough to my arena, I currently drag out a big spotlight on an extension cord plugged in at the barn and put it away when I'm done. It's a pain in the tush but...all I have right now. Eventually when we change some things around, I'll ask hubs to make my arena bigger and closer to my barn, so he can mount some LED lights up there.
Unfortunately my arena isn’t close enough to my barn to mount a light to it so I’m thinking of either using my headlights or investing in a spotlight and running a few extension cords until I can save enough money to get some lights put up! Thanks for all the ideas
