| Anyone have a horse that had tie back surgery? If so how are they doing and outcomes? |

Location: Oklahoma | If my horse I wouldn't even consider tie back. I would have it completely removed. Reason being in bout 2-3 years they are apt to come undone. I hear they can laser now but not sure |

| I've had a few horses that have had tie backs. One horse actually had the get the surgery re-done a couple years later. The others turned out pretty well, except they do start that "roaring flapping" throat noise. I'm not 100% sure it really helped much, getting them over the breathing issues mentally is the tough part =/ Just my experience! |

Not trying to butt in to the conversation but since you’re have had horses with this surgery, how long do they generally take to heal? |

| My gelding has had it. He has to be thoroughly warmed up before a run. Also isn’t a horse you can just pull from the field and run a barrel race, needs to be in shape. I run him on wind aid and I highly recommend it. Any questions feel free to ask!! Ran in 1d before surgery and 1d after.. |

That’s exactly what i said today that removing it would be better and i thought they could laser
we just do the surgery and remove it without a laser if im not mistaken. But we do the surgery a lot. I personally have not done it myself, but I've assisted several times. |

Not trying to butt in to the conversation but since you’re have had horses with this surgery, how long do they generally take to heal?
We usually give them a couple of weeks off after a surgery, then get right back in to training. Usually starting off slow though, we won't breeze again until 6-8 weeks after surgery. The throat does need some time to heal...but the longest process is still getting them back mentally. My trainer always brought them back slow, to keep their confidence up and hope they realize there is no more fear of not breathing well! Hope this helps =] |

Location: Oklahoma | The only thing I have to add to the current input is that I would fix it promptly and do not continue to use them. I let one go for a while and he never came back. I totally agree with the 'laser' vs. tieback. |

| We had one done for our gelding last fall. It was at Purdue in Indiana. It was roughly $1800 which included 3 nights at the vets. |

Location: Texas | We had tie-back done to a horse I was ridng just recently. It was done at Oakridge and they did not recommend removing. |
