One of my older geldings started rubbing his ears on EVERYTHING about 2 months ago. He was wormed with ivermectin a week after that. He proceeded to rub almost all of the hair off of his ears. He moved on to rubbing his forlock, mane and now is working on his tail. I've kept him covered in fly spray (we STILL have mosquitoes here), I've wormed him with 3 different types of wormer, I've used nothing new on him and haven't switched his feed/grass/hay. The other horse that shares his field and barn has no issues at all.

My mom is having the same issues. One of hers is doing the exact same thing, and the other is perfectly fine. She lives 20 miles from me, so it isn't just this area.

Anyone have any clue? My vet suggested using a different wormer, but since doing that, it hasn't helped.

Get in his ears and see if there are ticks.

Sorry - should have mentioned that. I've carefully inspected his ears inside and out - no ticks and no mites. I don't even see any actual bites anywhere.

What have you wormed him with in the past? I would probably worm him again with something that has pyrantel to get pinworms.
