LWO (frame overo pattern) is what causes lethal white in homozygous form. The gene you're talking about doesn't cause death.

Yes I know. The cool bit was there are some all white horses with this gene. Only a very few but it was cool.

Just curious. When horses have a lot of white on their heads and it goes inside their ears, they can be deaf. They have one of the W genes (there are about 20 of them). Just like an aussie dog or a dalmation who are deaf because of where the white is. It has something to do with the lack of pigment. Are the horses you're talking about deaf?

I have to disagree with the Dalmatian deafness comment. Being a breeder of the dals, there is no proof that their deafness is caused by the white they have. I had my litters hearing tested & some were heavy spotted, med spotted & light spotted & none were deaf. Lack of pigment is usually in the nose, thus not causing deafness.
