We are looking at a 3 yr old with 3 months cutting training. Has color, has pedigree can RIDE AROUND and watch a cow nicely. Only problem....she looks like a 2 year old physically. She needs some groceries but my only concern is that she may be stunted being that this is a critical time in her growth and develpment. The price is pretty fair...        To take the chance or not.......

If you like her then take a chance on her, you may be kicking you're own booty if you dont later down the road. Since the price is good you can always make it back and then some if you put time into her. They dont really stop growing untill they hit 5 anyways..

If you’re calling her a 3 yo, as of Jan. , she chronologically and physically, still a 2
Yo. A lot of the cutting breds are very small, like you describe. I wouldn’t count on her getting much taller, but she might fill out some more. If she xrayed good and you don’t mind a small horse you might consider it.

I'm in the exact same boat, except I took the chance, and she is currently at the trainers right now,
once she gets back she will have a break and will be fed right up for a while!

I have a coming two year old and shes coming three and they look like they are the same age, they are also same height and bone structure, so I'm hoping she comes into herself later on, shes sunfrost x high brown hickory

Couple years ago I bought a " On the smaller side" cutting bred gelding. I thought MAYBE he would mature to 15hh and maybe weigh 1100. a year later he was 16.2hh tall and 1200+ pounds. Two years later ( Now a 5 year old) I'm scared to look outside to see if he has grown more. He is 16.3 and 1300 pounds IN SHAPE. Best horse ever!!! Made a barrel horse in about a month , head horse in about 3 days, just a sponge for learning. Glad I took the chance.

What I should have said is that she looks a full year younger than what she is.  We may take a gamble.

Give her a chance, especially if the price is right!! And then come back and tell us how great she is
