Last Thursday a girl called 911 and said she was being chased. She seemed confused and disoriented, then her phone died. Turns out she was right by my house. Texas DPS spent all day Saturday flying around here in a helicopter looking for her. I live WAY in the country and this just does not happen here. No one has heard from her at all.
Saturday morning four of our high school guys were in a horrible auto accident. Two were killed. One of these was in my class. In 43 years of teaching this is only the second time that a student that was actually in my class died in an accident. There have been several of my ex-students that have died but this hurt. I feel so sorry for their parents. They had not been drinking but were probably driving too fast. If you could spare a prayer for our Marshall High School family it would be greatly appreciated.
One other thing, barrel horse trainer, Micah Goins passed away. I knew him but not well. I do know he was quite young—as compared to me. His family could use some prayers too.
I went to a small private school, and it seemed as if almost every year we lost at least one student, usually car accidents. Five months after my wreck, one of the boys that had just graduated was killed in an ag plane crash; my momma and I were coming home from one of my prosthesis fittings and passed the crash site. I knew in my heart who it was; I'll never forget that January day. . . . I'm so sorry for you also because I remember how it affected the teachers as well as us students.

A week before two other students were in a bad wreck and are still in critical condition. Maybe we need to put drivers’ ed back in the school. Don’t have an answer.
