Location: Montana | Which ones do you like and what type of horse do you use them on? I have a super light, sensitivie gelding that gets strong running, need something that will get his attention, but not flip him out. I have been using a dogbone Jr. cowhorse bit, works pretty good until we are running full out. Also considering just going up to a medium shank Ed Wright on him or a short or long shank Cervi with the same mouth, but looking for opinions.

| I have a little bit one of my horses loves - it’s like a jr cowhorse bit with chain mouth and port. It makes her salivate and she feels great in it! |

| I really like the jr cowhorse bit w/ a chain mouth piece. My gelding who is really sensitive, works great in it!
Question, do you run him in the same bit as you practice him in?
Just a thought..I practice my gelding with an o-ring snaffle or a sweet 6, or sometimes a chain. But I run him in something completely different, with a lot of turning power. But he doesn't need that bit to practice in, he only needs that when we run. I can't remember what it's called...but it's some sort of a combo (rope nose band and a bar bit) Just something to maybe consider =] |

| I really love my Molly Powell money maker bit! I have it in a 3 piece tho. I absolutely love the feel and reaction I get from it. I used to use a H Gag with a chain mouthpiece on my mare that had a little stiffer turning style and a shallow palate. She loved it! She hated two pieces... And tolerated three pieces ok. But loved the chain. A chain acts simular to a mullen mouth due to the fact that it lays fully a crossed the bars, lips and tongue. Also the more breaks in a mouth piece the more round / bendy it will encourage the horse to be.... Which is why it worked great for my stiffer mare. ETA- any bit can allow for more control depending on how it's adjusted. Have you simply tried tightening the curb chain just a little so the bit reacts faster? A chain with a port will probably be a good option like suggested. Also a combination type bit so you have mouth and nose too. I've had great luck with Reinsmans combination bits simular to a Martha josey million dollar bit on a strong horse. I like the fact that if you have to get ahold the pressure is distributed along the mouth and face. It seems to freak them out less if they are snatched because they are coming in to strong... Obviously once they are used to the nose pressure being added.

Yes, I ride/practice and run in the same bit. Over all I like it and have plenty of control, he just gets really strong running and need something to get him to come back to me better in a run. We're working on it and I try to keep him soft/stay off his face when not running because he flips his head and acts like I'm getting on his case (which I'm not, he is super soft and light). |

Location: Missouri | I ride my mare in a Carol Goosetree chain mouth, occasionally a CG dog bone for various reasons, but usually the chain mouth. She's super light mouthed, responds to light cues, loves a chain mouth. I haven't tried either of the two your posted above, but your gelding sounds like a good candidate to try one.

Location: Jersey Girl | My horse is most relaxed in a chain mouth. I have tried a few other bits, 2 piece and 3 piece and she is def more at ease . When I bought my mare she had been run in a chain mouth O ring but she now runs in a Jr cowhorse chain mouth w/out a chin strap.. |

I really like the Molly Powell bit but I'd be afraid a 7" check would be too much. |

I was thinking the same as fulltiltfilly about the 7in shank possibly being too much, especially as you say he's pretty sensitive?
This is the one I've used on my mare for years. She loves the double gag as it allows my hands a wee bit of forgiveness too. I have pretty light hands, but she really took to this bit not just bc of the chain, but because of the smaller gag action before the bit is fully engaged.

I can buy this one from a gal I know locally, only used twice, maybe I'll try it. |

| I have a Mike Beers chain bit that my mare really likes. The shank is a little long, but she works well in it so I try to keep from changing it up. |

Location: Montana | I also have a three piece combo bit (I think a Pozzi or that style, I can't remember) I can try too, but after hearing about the chain mouth I'm really excited to try this one with the double gag...I think it may work for us! |

| I've also been reading up on the Molly Powell bits, I have one that is pretty light in the face, but sorta stiff in the turns. I haven't tried a rope nose combo yet. I currently ride in a Carol Goostree CG bit too, but I need a tad more whoa. Also, how come Molly's bits don't come with bit guards? |

Location: Under The Big Sky Of Texas | I use chain mouths and love them, they are so easy on the mouth and love how they form to the mouth, they will cause more bend, not really a whoa bit but helps put more of a bend on your horse, they are great bits..I have a Molly Powell and a couple of gags and had Shallow Creek make one for me in a Clover leaf. If not using a chain mouth I use a dog bone.. The more shank the more whoa you will have, all my shanks are short are medium.. My favorite bit is The Grasshopper its a Charmayne James bit.

I went to one of Molly's clinics and she did a great job of breaking down her bits. If you are on FB you should message her your questions and I'll bet she will get back to you and answer your questions. |

I have this too, although not in a chain mouth. It is lighter than the double gag I recommended, I think, anyway.
I just kind of love CG bits....what can I say?
As for the used one you can get from a friend, a friend of mine always says, "Buy the bit. You can always sell it later." Although....I never do. ;) |

Ditto! I love this CJ Grasshopper. I purchased it by mistake and thought "oh well". Tried it and my horse loves it! Its light in the mouth but is a bit more heavier so if I need to get a faster response he feels my command right away. |
