So I've always been confused on this kneeling thing? You kneel before that which you submit to and hold in the highest respect. So why is it so bad that anyone would kneel before our flag? Honest curiosity as to why this is supposed to be disrespectful. I know it's not the customary actions that we as American's usually take (stand, remove cover) when singing or listening to the Anthem, but I never did understand why it was/is considered disrespectful.

BTW - there was no way I would post this on FB for an answer . . I'm trusting that you guys will understand and explain it from another angle.

I'm a Brady fan, always have been, and I love the game for the commercials and can't wait to see Maroon 5 perform. Has anyone heard if Budweiser will have a commercial? Usually there's all the hype about it locally but this year I haven't heard

Okay...my 'take' on the kneeling and what I have issue with is... so many people have fought and died for that Flag.

By those people fighting and dying for it; and OUR  Freedom that it represents, it allows those Football players (or any other players/people) to get BIG salaries and do what they want/love to do.

If they want 'social justice'... go somewhere else. That is a solemn moment to recognize people that died for our Freedom to watch, play and do what we WANT to do. We play the Anthem at barrel races...how do think it would go over to kneel at a barrel race? Not good.

Just sayin...just explaining 'my take' on it. No harshness intended and thank you for asking for an exact reason for the 'resistance to kneeling'. I am also glad that you feel safe enough to ask here. FB can be nothing but 'rabid dogs' for asking a question.

The NFL ratings went back up since they quit doing it. I tune into Football/NFL to see just that, not a 'political' statement.

A very good definition Gator Bug ... To me if you take a knee to the National Anthem that is kicking America in the butt, no respect for our flag or the men and women that has fought {lost of life} and are still fighting for us and our country.
Kneeing during a prayer is paying respect to our Lord.

I understand the issue that was made of kneeling, but my question is more why kneeling was considered disrespectful? Kneeling with your neck exposed is one of the oldest forms of showing respect - you did that to your king and queen.  I absolutely understand showing respect for all those who give or have given the offer of their lives to defend America.

I didn't follow the original whatshisnames stuff - I really detest any subject where the media runs rampant - so I don't know if the piece of info that would make it make sense to me is something he said about why he was kneeling or what. Probably. But if so, then he was more misguided than he could imagine. I would never view kneeling as a sign of disrespect. Turning your back (literally, physically) is the highest form of disrespect. If I ever saw anyone do that to the flag then we would have words.

Its all in the body language of Kaepernick, he became the first player to refuse to stand during the National Anthem. He said the gesture was a protest against police shootings of unarmed African Americans and other examples of racial injustice.
Gladys Knight had to defend why she was going to go ahead and sing the National Anthem since she was being picked on since it was tolded she would be singing it, she got alot of back lash over this..She wants to bring all America back together again..

Okay... Guess I didn't help or explain well enough.

I get what your are saying about A 'king'; however, that is WHY we have our Constition...we have NO 'kings'.

I think you were onto something in your second paragraph and what Southtxpony girl said... it is in protest of what WE hold dear to our hearts (with no 'King') and it is disrespectful to those that died/fought for OUR Freedom to play and DO WHAT we WANT. Kaepernick started it as a whole 'social injustice' thing. It was disrespectful. He got paid millions for being, in my opinion, a mediocre quarterback that would not hold up. He was being a brat...plain and simple.

Like I said in my previous post, try kneeling at a barrel race...see what happens. I really think you get it and just are going against what see on the 'news'. But you really do know exactly why it is disrespectful.

I tried to explain (and to my shock at actually having to explain/justify it)... thought I did okay.

And I was very pleasant and respectful. But if you don't see what I was trying to say...I am sorry for that.

Actually my conclusion is that whatshisname has shown how ignorant he is in many aspects with the move. If he wanted to disrespect the flag he should have turned his back. That he kneeled shows his ignorance of the meaning of kneeling. And I could care less the message he was trying to get across - in my opinion no paid entertainer should be listened to except in their field of expertise. That he chose to try to disrespect the flag shows even more ignorance that he didn't know his audience.

I am very pleased with your and Roxie's responses. Thoughtful discourse of a touchy subject.

I thought you got it. And thank you for the discourse remark. I really do try to have a pleasant debate.

I do not care if he is kneeling or turning his back...it is all the same disrespect to me.. and I think many others...judging by the ratings for the NFL when he did it.

Thank you for a very pleasant and thoughtful conversation. You made me justify my position and thank you for that.

Can we talk about the Super Bowl food?!?!?!  My favorite part!  LOL

I really do not know. The Rams have a great defense and if they 'blitz' the crap out of Brady...they will do well. He just hates to get hit. But he is very 'pretty'. LOL

Haven't found a team yet to really 'go' for.

So... I am now in it for ALL the junk food I can get my 'paws' on and the commercials.

Whiteboy - 2019-02-01 12:55 PM If players kneel, I'm turning it off.

You did well in the explaining Gator Bug, but I had to add some of my thoughts too, lol.. I understand what lonely va barrelxr was getting at she was just trying to understand what all the fuss was all about on the kneeling..The look in Kaepernicks face while kneeling to the National Anthem just says it all to me, he has no respect..

I get it.

He did have complete disrespect/anger in his face when he kneeled. It was so very disrespectful.

But the thing I can't get passed is that he actually lives in a country where he CAN do that.

We might not agree, but he CAN do it. He won't get murdered for his opinion(s). WHY? Because people have fought and died for THAT Right that we as everyday people get to enjoy.

To me, he (and others) take that Right for granted.

Ah ha! Another piece of the issue I didn't see -- I paid NO attention to the media frenzy so I didn't catch his projected attitude. What a nard.

As to food - I offered to do a little spread for the hubb and he says he just wants pizza.  OK, twist my arm so I don't have to cook all day!  LOL!

Peyton is so very dry in his humor...that he is way funny. But... at the same time he can come off relaxed; and comfortable in his own skin. He is really good in commercials. Eli is not as dry, but he is also not as good at commercials.

ETA... I am really truly now into the food and commercials. I will 'tackle' someone for some really good munchies!!
